X10 PRO Keychain RF Kit (PHK04) — Product Info & Installation

Product info sheet for the X10 PRO Keychain RF Kit (PHK04) — an RF keychain remote paired with a plug-in RF-to-powerline transceiver for wireless X10 control.

Overview

The PHK04 kit expands X10 remote control capability with a wireless keychain remote and a plug-in base transceiver (PAT02). Plug the transceiver into any nearby outlet and you get wireless control of two sequentially addressed X10 modules (or groups of modules) around the house. The keychain remote includes Dim/Bright buttons for use with dimmable X10 receiver modules. Since it uses RF instead of IR, no line-of-sight is required — range is up to 100 ft under ideal conditions between the keychain remote and the base transceiver.

The base transceiver (PAT02) also has a built-in controlled outlet (non-dimming) that responds to its own X10 address.

Requirements

• 120VAC
• Built-in appliance module (in the PAT02 base): 15A, 1/3HP rated, any load type (incandescent or inductive)
• PAT02 built-in outlet does NOT support dimming
• Keychain remote requires 1 CR2025 lithium battery (included)

X10 Protocol

• House Code Dial: Letters A–P, default "A"
• Unit Number Dial: Numbers 1–16, default "1"
• Each receiver module is set to a unique (or shared) unit number
• Controllers must match the House Code of the receivers they control

Electrical / Split-Phase Note

Most residential homes are wired split-phase, and the two 120V phases aren't directly connected. If an X10 receiver doesn't respond to a remote controller after installation, verify the receiver's breaker is on the same phase as the controller — or move the breaker, or install a phase coupler to improve powerline communication throughout the home (see x10pro.com Technical Support).

Installation

1. Set the transceiver's House Code dial (A–P) to match the House Code you'll use on the remote controller.
2. Plug a lamp/appliance (switched ON) into the transceiver's controlled outlet, then plug the transceiver into a convenient AC wall outlet. (The built-in outlet responds only to Unit Code 1 ON/OFF; the transceiver also relays all received RF X10 commands onto the home's AC power lines.)
3. Local control: the ON/OFF button on the transceiver toggles its own built-in outlet.
4. The built-in outlet does not support dimming.

Keychain Remote (PHR04) Setup

By default (after fitting the battery) the PHR04 is set to House Code A. The top pair of ON/OFF buttons controls Unit A1; the middle pair controls A2.

1. Plug in the PAT02 transceiver and set it to House Code A.
2. Press the top ON/OFF button to control Unit 1 on House Code A. Press the second (bottom) ON/OFF button to control Unit 2. To brighten/dim, press ON first, then Bright or Dim.

Changing the House Code (top two buttons)

1. Press and hold the top ON and OFF buttons together for 2–3 seconds to enter Program Mode (LED stays on).
2. Press and release the top ON button the number of times matching the desired House Code (once = A, twice = B, etc.). The LED blinks off each press.
3. Press the bottom ON or OFF button to return to Normal Mode (it also times out after 30 seconds of inactivity).

Changing the Unit Code (top two buttons)

The second pair of buttons is always one number higher than the first pair (e.g. if the first button is set to 6, the second controls 7).

1. Press and hold the top ON and OFF buttons together for 2–3 seconds to enter Program Mode.
2. Press and release the top OFF button the number of times matching the desired Unit Code (once = 1, twice = 2, etc.).
3. Press either bottom button to return to Normal Mode (also times out after 30 seconds).

Notes

• Don't leave a dimmable module at partial dim thinking it's off — always send an explicit OFF command.
• RF signals can be attenuated by electrical fields, metal doors/frames, and appliances. Relocating the PAT02 transceiver can improve reception.
• To change the battery: pry the keychain remote apart and fit a fresh CR2025 3V lithium battery, observing polarity.
