X10 PAM01/PAM02 Appliance Module with AGC — Installation Manual

Instruction manual for the X10 PAM01/PAM02 Appliance Module with AGC (Automatic Gain Control) — a plug-in X10 powerline receiver that adds remote on/off control to radios, fans, air conditioners, and non-dimmable or fluorescent lamps over 300 watts.

Overview

The PAM01 (2-pin) / PAM02 (3-pin) Appliance Module lets you automate any household electronic device: plug the device into the Module, plug the Module into an outlet, and control it On/Off from any X10 Controller in the house. The AGC design uses an advanced X10 powerline circuit for greater sensitivity and better noise rejection — recommended for installations where reliable operation is paramount.

Local control: The Appliance Module senses if a load is plugged into it. Toggling the load's own on/off switch to On causes the Module to turn on the connected load.

• House Code Dial: Letters A–P, default "A"
• Unit Number Dial: Numbers 1–16, default "1"

Each X10 Receiver Module is set to a unique Unit Number (or an identical Unit Number, as desired). Each X10 Controller operating a specific set of Receiver Modules must be set to the same House Code as the Receivers it controls.

Electrical Protocol (Split-Phase Wiring)

Nearly all residential homes are wired split-phase — each 120V phase is not directly connected to the other 120V phase. If an X10 Receiver does not respond to a remote Controller after installation, check that the breaker serving the Receiver is on the same phase as the Controller's breaker. Setting the Address Code

Using a small screwdriver, set the House Code Wheel (RED) to match your X10 PRO Controller (A–P). Then set the Unit Code Wheel (BLACK) to the desired number address (1–16).

Installation

1. Plug the Appliance Module into any wall outlet, following the Electrical Protocol above.
2. Plug the device to be controlled into the Module's bottom outlet. Ensure the device's own on/off switch (if present) is turned on.
3. The device may turn on immediately if the factory left the internal relay in the ON condition.
4. Send an X10 OFF command to turn it off. Installation is complete.
