    August 31, 2026 2 min read

    Full text manual (for reference)

Product manual for the Winland WaterBug Surface Probe — available in supervised (W-S-S) and unsupervised (W-S-U) configurations for use with Winland's EnviroAlert and WaterBug water detection systems.

    Mounting

If bolting the probe down for a permanent installation, drill only through the innermost center recessed area. Drilling anywhere else may damage internal wiring and cause the unit to fail.

    • Extend probe wiring using 22–18 AWG twisted pair wire (see the full product manual for maximum cable lengths).
    • Four stainless steel probe contacts must be mounted flush against the surface being monitored (e.g., the floor) to detect water reliably.

    Supervised vs. Unsupervised

    Model Description
W-S-S (Supervised) Connects to EnviroAlert products and the WB-800. Triggers alarm if water is detected OR if the cable is cut.
W-S-U (Unsupervised) Connects to the full line of WaterBug products. Triggers alarm only on water detection — no alarm if cable is cut.

    Winland also offers matching under-carpet probe variants (W-UC-S supervised, W-UC-U unsupervised) compatible with the same product line (EA200-12/24, EA400-12/24, EA800, EA800-ip, WB-200, WB-350, WB-800).

    Testing

To ensure proper operation, test the probe weekly.

    Compliance

Complies with WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive 2002/96/EC) and RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive 2002/95/EC). This device is considered a passive EM device and is excluded from the scope of the EMC Directive (89/336/EEC) and Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EEC. Do not dispose of as unsorted municipal waste — collect separately and use approved WEEE collection/return systems.
