  • WaterCop Z-Wave — Leak Detection and Automatic Water Shut-Off System

    September 08, 2026 2 min read

Overview and ordering guide for the WaterCop Z-Wave leak detection and automatic water shut-off system, which integrates the trusted WaterCop valve/actuator/sensor system with Z-Wave home automation networks.

    Full text manual (for reference)

WaterCop Z-Wave is a leak detection and automatic water shut-off system that integrates the trusted WaterCop early-leak-detection and shut-off technology with Z-Wave home automation networks, allowing local or remote monitoring and control of a home's main water supply.

    How It Works

    • Wireless flood/temperature sensors are placed at or near water-utilizing appliances (water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, sinks, etc.) to monitor for leaks or sudden flooding.
    • When a sensor detects a leak, it transmits a closure signal through the Z-Wave network to the WaterCop Z-Wave control valve located on the main water supply, shutting off the water automatically.
    • The system can notify key contacts the moment it shuts off the main water supply.
    • Homeowners can remotely set up protocols for routine open/close of the water system (requires a properly integrated Z-Wave gateway controller and network access).
    • Integrates with other Z-Wave devices — temperature, lighting, security, irrigation, camera — for a coordinated smart-home response.

    System Components

    Lead-Free Valve

    • Full-flow, lead-free brass ball valve (heavy-duty industrial grade) for durability and performance.
    • Available in ½″ – 1¼″ sizes; inquire for 1½″ – 4″ applications.

    Rugged Actuator

    • When activated by a sensor, the valve must be locally reset for maximum protection.
    • Electrically driven actuator for quick, reliable closure.
    • 110V AC converted to 12V DC (Class 2 power converter with 20′ cord).
    • 1.3A full load; tested over 250,000 cycles for long product life.

    Flood and Temperature Sensors

    • Wireless and battery powered.
    • Sounds an audible alarm when leaks are detected.
    • Sounds an audible “chirp” when batteries are low.

    Ordering Information

Step 1: Select the Correct Valve Size

Size (FNPT) Part No. (Lead Free)
    1/2″ WCVLF 1/2
    3/4″ WCVLF 3/4
    1″ WCVLF 1
    1 1/4″ WCVLF 1 1/4

Step 2: Add ZWACT WaterCop Z-Wave Actuator.
Step 3: Add ZWCFS100 Wireless Flood Sensors.

    Notes

*Lead Free NSF61G refers to the wetted surface of pipe, fittings, and fixtures in potable water systems that have a weighted average lead content ≤ 0.25% (California Health & Safety Code 116875; Vermont Act 193).
