Installation instructions for the DataComm Electronics 45-0010 Recessed Media Box, covering new-construction and retrofit mounting plus low-voltage and line-voltage wiring.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Instruction/installation sheet for the DataComm Electronics 45-0010 Recessed Media Box — a recessed enclosure for concealing low-voltage and line-voltage wiring behind wall-mounted TVs and other AV devices, supporting both new-construction and retrofit installs.

    Parts Included

    • Recessed Media Box
    • Wall Plate
    • Wall Plate Screws (4)
    • Retrofit Mounting Tabs (4)
    • Retrofit Mounting Wings with Screws (4)
    • Black Foam Tape
    • #6 Wood Screws (2)
    • Small Threaded Screws (4)
    • Screwdriver (not pictured)

    New Construction Installation (Stud Mounted)

    1. Select the location for mounting the recessed media box.
    2. Break off all four (4) retrofit mounting tabs — this is required for new construction.
    3. Using the stud positioning marks, align the recessed media box to the stud.
    4. Secure the box to the stud through the two (2) mounting holes with the supplied wood screws.
    5. Install drywall with a cutout opening of approximately 7-3/8″ x 5-5/16″.
    6. Tighten the four (4) wing bracket mounting screws to draw the box firmly against the drywall.
    7. Install the flexible cover plate using the four (4) mounting screws.

    Retrofit Installation

    1. Select the location for mounting the recessed media box (must be mounted between two studs at least 11″ apart).
    2. Use a stud finder to locate and mark the studs behind the drywall.
    3. Press the back of the cover plate against the drywall to mark the outline via the four drywall opening locating pins; connect the marks and cut the opening (approximately 7-3/8″ x 5-5/16″) with a drywall saw.
    4. Insert the recessed media box into the wall — the four retrofit mounting tabs stop the box at the drywall; tighten the four wing bracket mounting screws.
    5. Install the flexible cover plate with the four mounting screws.

Low Voltage and Line Voltage Wiring

This product must be installed in accordance with all electrical codes and regulations. Consult a qualified licensed electrician if any part of the instructions is unclear.

    Low Voltage Instructions

Select the desired top or bottom opening in the recessed media box and pull low-voltage cables through it. If using keystone connectors, connect the cables to keystone jacks and insert them into a standard-size keystone wall plate, installed inside the recessed media box with two of the four supplied threaded screws. The plate's mounting holes line up with the junction box tabs.

    Line Voltage Instructions

Warning: Turn off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse and test that it's off before wiring.

    1. Use a standard retrofit junction box (Allied Moulding or Carlon). Select the top or bottom opening and install the retrofit junction box, tightening its two mounting screws to secure it to the recessed media box.
    2. Run electrical wires to the retrofit junction box and install the desired line voltage device per its own installation instructions. Install a standard-size wall plate over the device.
    3. Once wiring is complete and the wall plate is secure, turn the power back on.
    4. Use the provided black foam to seal any unused openings.

    Safety Warnings

    • Never install low or line voltage wiring during lightning storms.
    • Never install low or line voltage wiring in wet locations unless the wire is specifically rated for wet locations.
    • Never touch un-insulated low or line voltage wires or terminals unless disconnected at the source.
    • Use caution when installing low or line voltage cables.
