  • Wagan Tech Smart AC 200W with USB (Item 2402) — User's Manual

    September 08, 2026 4 min read

Full user's manual for the Wagan Tech Smart AC 200 Watt with USB power inverter, item no. 2402.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Full user's manual for the Wagan Tech Smart AC 200 Watt with USB power inverter (item no. 2402) — a 12V DC-to-AC modified sine wave inverter with a built-in USB charging port, for use with vehicle 12V accessory sockets.

    General Information

This inverter is powered from a 12-volt DC source and provides 200 watts AC, 60Hz, through two North American standard outlets. The AC waveform is a modified sine wave (MSW) which approximates household electrical service. It powers AC appliances up to 200 watts. An attached DC power cord connects to a 12V DC cigarette lighter socket (the plug is removable to reveal an airline power plug). A USB power port charges cell phones, PDAs, and MP3 players. Safety features include automatic shutdown on overheat, overload, under-voltage, and over-voltage conditions.

    Operating Environment / User Responsibility

    • The 12-volt supply must provide between 10 to 14.5 volts DC
    • Make sure the inverter is connected to the correct voltage and polarity
    • Unplug or disconnect the inverter when not in use, and when starting the vehicle's engine
    • Keep at least one inch of clearance around the inverter for airflow
    • Keep the inverter and all cords dry
    • Secure the inverter to keep it from shifting while the vehicle is moving
    • Know your appliances' wattage requirements — total load cannot exceed 200 watts
    • Do not connect the inverter's AC output to another AC power source (voids warranty)
    • Do not use an extension cord between the DC power source and the inverter's DC input (creates voltage drop, reduces efficiency)

    Warnings

    • Keep the inverter away from children
    • Do not operate with wet hands — electrical shock hazard
    • This device produces voltage similar to wall outlets and should be treated with the same caution

    Operation

The cigarette lighter adapter (DC plug) is fused at 20 amps.

    1. Insert the DC plug into the vehicle's accessory socket.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the accessory position, if necessary.
    3. Insert appliance plug(s) into the AC socket(s) at the front of the inverter.
    4. Turn on the power switch on the front of the inverter.
    5. The green LED lights to confirm AC output is present.
    6. After use, turn off the inverter and disconnect the plug from the accessory socket.

Note for vehicle use: this inverter has features to prevent complete battery discharge — automatic shutdown initiates at 10.5 volts. If this occurs, run the engine 10-20 minutes to recharge the battery.

    USB Power Port

Provides 5 volts DC up to 0.5A for charging cell phones, PDAs, and MP3 players (user supplies the charging/power adapter cord).

    1. Connect the device to the adapter cord.
    2. Plug the USB connector into the USB port.
    3. Turn on the device.
    4. After use, turn off the device and turn off the inverter.
    5. Disconnect the USB connector from the inverter.
    6. Disconnect the inverter from its power source.

    Cautions

    • If recharging your battery with a charger, disconnect the inverter first — failure to do so may cause an input voltage spike that damages the inverter.
    • Powering the inverter with greater than 15 volts DC can damage it and void the warranty.
    • Do not use an extension cord between the DC power source and the inverter's DC input.
    • Do not open the case — no user-serviceable parts inside.
    • Do not let the inverter or appliance cords get wet; do not operate in or around water (water damage is not covered under warranty).

    Troubleshooting

    Symptom Cause / Action
TV/monitor/TV-DVD combo won't start on first try Picture-tube devices have a high initial power surge. Switch the device on every 2–3 seconds until the screen comes on — some screens take 2–5 tries.
Inverter not functioning – poor contacts Clean contact parts thoroughly.
Inverter not functioning – DC receptacle has no power Check the fuse in the lighter socket circuit; replace any blown fuse with the same type/rating.
Inverter not functioning – battery voltage too low Start the engine or recharge/replace the battery.
Shuts down on overload Reduce the wattage of the load.
Thermal shutdown Under heavy loads for extended periods, the inverter shuts down to prevent heat damage — reduce load and let it cool before restarting.
