    The Tripp Lite AV550SC is a backup power block (UPS) with battery backup, surge protection, and optional Tel/DSL and coaxial line surge suppression — 120V AC input, not suitable for mobile applications.

    Important Safety Instructions

    • Install indoors, away from excess moisture, heat, conductive contaminants, dust, or direct sunlight. Keep indoor temperature between 32°F and 104°F (0°C to 40°C). Leave adequate ventilation space on all sides.
    • Connect directly to a properly grounded AC outlet — never plug the UPS into itself, and don't use an adapter that eliminates the ground connection.
    • Do not use extension cords to connect to an AC outlet — this voids the warranty unless a Tripp Lite surge suppressor is used.
    • If powered by a motor-driven AC generator, it must supply clean, filtered, computer-grade output.
    • Do not use for life-support applications where a malfunction could affect device performance.
    • Do not connect surge suppressors or extension cords to the UPS output.
    • No user-serviceable parts inside — do not open the unit. Battery replacement should only be done by authorized service personnel using the same type/number of sealed lead-acid batteries. Never dispose of batteries in fire, short the terminals, or add external batteries.

    Features

    Tel/DSL and coaxial line surge suppression are both included but optional — the UPS works fully without using them.

    • Tel/DSL Line Surge Suppression: Connect the wall jack to the UPS jack marked with the "in" symbol, and your equipment to the jack marked with the "out" symbol. Ensure equipment is also protected against AC line surges.
    • Coax Protection Jacks: Gold "F" connectors protect against surges on a satellite, cable, or antenna line. Connect the wall jack to the "IN" coaxial jack, and the "OUT" jack to the protected device. The UPS must be the first item in line from the wall jack, and must be plugged into a grounded 3-wire outlet for this protection to work. Ensure coax cables to satellite dishes/antennas are also grounded.

    Basic Operation

    # Control Function
    1 ON/OFF/TEST Button Hold 1 sec to turn on/off (cold-starts from battery if utility power is absent). Hold 3 sec (with unit on) to run a self-test — do not release early or you'll turn the unit off.
    2 ON/OFF LED (green) Lit continuously when the UPS is on and supplying power (utility or battery).
    3 OVERLOAD/CHECK BATTERY LED (red) Solid after self-test = battery outlet capacity exceeded (unplug equipment and re-test). Flashing = battery needs recharge/replacement — during a blackout, save files and shut down immediately; after a self-test, allow 12 hrs of continuous recharge and re-test, then contact Tripp Lite if it persists.
    4 Battery Backup / Surge Protected Outlets Plug in computer, monitor, and other critical equipment. Do not plug in laser printers.
    5 Tel/DSL Jacks Optional single phone-line surge protection; some models include a built-in splitter (1 in / 2 out).
    6 Coax Jacks Optional gold "F" connector surge protection for satellite/cable/antenna lines.
    7 Resettable Circuit Breaker Protects against overcurrent; if tripped, remove some load and press to reset.

    Caution: Do not unplug the UPS to test its batteries — this removes safe grounding and can introduce a damaging surge into network connections. You can leave equipment connected during a self-test.

    Storage

    Turn off and disconnect all connected equipment, then hold ON/OFF/TEST for 1 second to fully deactivate the unit. For extended storage, fully recharge the batteries every 3 months (plug in, power on, charge 4–6 hours). Leaving batteries discharged for a long period causes permanent capacity loss.

    Service

    1. Review the manual to rule out a misread instruction.
    2. If the problem persists, call Tripp Lite at (773) 869-1233 (not the dealer) with the model number, serial number, and purchase date.
    3. If service is needed, you'll receive an RMA number — mark it on the outside of the package, use proper padding (no Styrofoam beads), and include a copy of your sales receipt if within the 2-year warranty period. Ship prepaid and insured.
