TrickleStar TS-180SS-US-7 — Fireproof Surge Protector with Standby Power Reduction

Reference manual for the TrickleStar TS-180SS-US-7 series surge-protecting power strip. This model automatically reduces standby power drawn by TV or PC peripherals, while providing fireproof surge protection with phone/fax/modem and antenna/TV line protection.

Overview

The unit senses when a connected PC or TV is powered off and automatically switches off selected peripherals (printer, speakers, charger, modem, scanner, subwoofer, DVD player, etc.) to save standby energy. It uses fireproof ceramic-encased metal oxide varistors (MOVs) for surge suppression, which suppress more energy and dissipate heat faster than traditional MOVs while resisting fire during abnormal surge conditions.

Installation Requirements

• Power connections: Must be plugged directly into a grounded receptacle. Do not use an extension cord, adapter, or another power strip in conjunction with this product — doing so voids all warranties.
• Phone/Fax/Modem surge protection: Connect the telephone/fax/modem cable through the protected connectors on the unit, or the Connected Device Warranty is voided.
• Antenna/TV surge protection: Connect the antenna/cable through the protected connectors, or the Connected Device Warranty is voided.

Setup — TV Configuration

1. Plug an always-on device (e.g. TiVo) into the "always on" outlets.
2. Plug the TV into the "control" outlet.
3. Plug switched devices (amp, subwoofer, game console, DVD player) into the switched outlets.
4. Adjust the switching threshold — typically "high" for TV setups.
5. Connect antenna/cable to the secondary surge protection (on units with this feature).
6. Plug the power strip into a grounded receptacle.

Setup — PC Configuration

1. Plug an always-on device (router, modem) into the "always on" outlets.
2. Plug the PC into the "control" outlet.
3. Plug switched devices (printer, scanner, speakers, chargers) into the switched outlets.
4. Adjust the switching threshold — typically "low" or "medium" for notebooks/desktops.
5. Connect telephone/modem/router/fax to the secondary surge protection.
6. Plug the power strip into a grounded receptacle.

Product Lifetime & Warranty

Product lifetime is 10 years. TrickleStar warrants the product against design, assembly, material, or workmanship defects for the full product lifetime, repairing or replacing at its option, free of charge.

Connected Device Warranty

TrickleStar will repair or replace connected devices damaged by a transient voltage surge/spike or lightning strike ("Occurrence") while properly connected through the unit to a correctly wired, grounded AC line — up to a maximum claim amount of:

• 181SS-US-7** models: $20,000 USD
• 180SS-US-7** models: $200,000 USD

This coverage requires the phone/network line and antenna/cable line (if applicable) to also be properly connected through the unit's protected connectors. Claims must be filed within 15 days of the occurrence with a receipt for the damaged device, and the unit itself may be required for inspection. Warranty is void if the unit was daisy-chained with other power strips/UPS/extension cords, used with a 3-to-2 prong adapter, used outdoors, or used with aquariums/water-related equipment.

Making a Warranty Claim

Visit www.tricklestar.com, print the claim form, and email it to warranty@tricklestar.com with: product part number, list of devices connected at the time of the occurrence, list of damaged devices and extent of damage, date of occurrence, and purchase location/date with a copy of the original receipt. Warranty valid in USA and Canada only.
