  • The Somfy TaHoma Checklist — System Requirements & Setup Guide

    August 31, 2026 3 min read

Pre-installation checklist and system requirements for setting up the Somfy TaHoma smart hub with RTS motorized window coverings.

    Full text manual (for reference)

    Overview

The Somfy TaHoma® Checklist helps ensure a successful installation of the Somfy TaHoma smart home hub for controlling RTS motorized window coverings (shades, blinds, shutters) and lighting via the TaHoma North America app, smartphone/tablet, or voice commands.

TaHoma is recommended for RTS installations and spaces less than 4,000 square feet.

    System Requirements & Prerequisites

    • RTS (Radio Technology Somfy) products already programmed with UP/DOWN limits and "my" position set, plus an RTS control device (Situo, Telis, Decoflex, or similar)
    • A wireless access point in range of the planned TaHoma location (when using Wi-Fi)
    • A wireless router running a 2.4 GHz network with open and mixed-mode encryption — WMM®, WPA2™-Personal (2018-04), WPA™-Personal, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ b/g/n
    • Healthy, robust network (without extenders)
    • Dedicated 110V outlet
    • Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password
    • Internet connection required for setup and usage

    RTS Environmental Considerations

TaHoma is a Wi-Fi-to-RTS interface and requires attention to RF conditions for optimal performance:

    • Gateway must be placed within 25–35 ft. of the RTS motorized window covering
    • RTS motor antenna must remain accessible
    • Do not place near a metallic surface or inside a duct containing electrical cables
    • Do not use in areas where radio frequency transmission devices are prohibited
    • Keep TaHoma away from devices that could interfere with radio waves: fish tanks/aquariums, microwaves, refrigerators, cordless phones/baby monitors

    Installation Steps

    1. Connect the TaHoma Gateway to a 110V outlet using the included power supply
    2. Download the TaHoma North America App from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android)
    3. Create a TaHoma account — click "Create an account" and add a user email
    4. Configure and personalize the TaHoma interface by following on-screen instructions, or refer to the installation/usage leaflets on the TaHoma webpage

Minimum app requirements: Android 7+ or iOS 11+.

    Common Questions

    • Do I still need a remote? Yes — initial shade programming requires a Situo, Telis, Decoflex, or Smoove RTS transmitter.
    • Can I use TaHoma without Wi-Fi? Yes, via the optional TaHoma Ethernet Adaptor (ref #1870470, sold separately) for a hardwired internet connection.
    • How many TaHoma interfaces do I need? Each unit supports up to 40 RTS channels (each channel controls an individual shade or group). Somfy recommends at least one TaHoma per room/zone for RTS installations; a single system can scale up to 10 TaHoma interfaces.
