    Installation and operation manual for the STI Wireless Driveway Monitor™ (Wireless Alert Series) — Models STI-34150 (Battery Power Kit), STI-34100 (Solar Power Kit), STI-34151 (Battery Powered Sensor), and STI-34101 (Solar Power Sensor).

    How It Works

    The Driveway Monitor uses a patented magnetometer sensor transmitter, so it's only triggered by cars or trucks — not people or animals. When a vehicle passes the Motion Alert® Sensor Transmitter next to the driveway, the receiver unit inside sounds a chime and flashes the alert light. A vehicle creates a slight disturbance in the earth's uniform magnetic field, which the sensor transmitter detects and transmits to the receiver.

    Battery Powered Sensor Setup (STI-34150 & STI-34151)

    1. Remove the sensor transmitter cap by turning it counterclockwise.
    2. Without pulling on the brass antenna or any wires, grasp the battery/circuit board holder by the finger notches, twist gently, and pull out. Insert two "C" alkaline batteries (not included).
    3. Replace the battery holder and sensor transmitter cap.
    4. To test/program: place the sensor transmitter on a table or counter 5-10 ft from the receiver. Rotating it triggers a faint clicking noise, confirming operation.
    5. Program the sensor to the receiver before mounting outdoors (see receiver instructions). Model STI-34150 comes factory-programmed.

    Solar Powered Sensor Setup (STI-34100 & STI-34101)

    1. Remove the plastic film on the solar panel.
    2. Remove the bottom of the sensor transmitter (3 screws).
    3. Remove the plastic tab between the batteries.
    4. Replace the bottom of the unit and secure with the 3 screws. Place the sensor transmitter in direct sunlight for 48 hours.
    5. Place batteries in a NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery charger before first use; once charged, return them to the sensor transmitter, and re-secure the bottom.
    6. To test/program: place the sensor transmitter on a table or counter 5-10 ft from the receiver. Rotating it triggers a faint clicking noise, confirming operation.
    7. Program the sensor to the receiver before mounting outdoors (see receiver instructions). Model STI-34100 comes factory-programmed.

    Note: Use only AA (1.2V) NiMH rechargeable batteries for the solar-powered sensor.

    Sensitivity Adjustment

    The factory default is HIGH sensitivity, adjustable via an internal jumper.

    Battery-powered sensor transmitter: unscrew the cap, position the jumper, replace the cap.

    • LOW: jumper on the two bottom pegs
    • MEDIUM: jumper removed completely, or hung on the middle peg
    • HIGH: jumper on the two top pegs

    Solar-powered sensor transmitter: remove the bottom (3 screws), position the jumper, replace and secure.

    • LOW: jumper on the two leftmost pegs
    • MEDIUM: jumper removed completely, or hung from the middle peg
    • HIGH: jumper on the two rightmost pegs

    Installation / Mounting

    • The solar sensor transmitter must be placed where it receives partial or full sunlight.
    • For both models, position the sensor transmitter at least 25 ft back from the main road.
    • For a typical 12 ft wide driveway, mount the sensor no more than 3 ft from the driveway edge. Wider driveways (over 12 ft) may need additional sensor transmitters.
    • Sensor transmitter range: up to 1,000 ft from the receiver, though actual range varies with environment, wireless phones, routers, and similar RF devices nearby.

    For Optimal Range

    1. Place the cap on the mounting tube.
    2. Insert the stake into the opposite end of the tube.
    3. Place the tube (stake side down) into the ground within 3 ft of the driveway and more than 25 ft from the road.
    4. Gently hammer the cap side of the tube until the stake is firmly in the ground.
    5. Remove the cap and place the sensor transmitter on the tube.
    6. Ensure the sensor transmitter has a clear line-of-sight to the receiver for best performance.
    7. Position the sensor so the vehicle does not pass between it and the receiver.

    STI recommends using the included stake and tube. If using an alternate mount, ensure it's stable — do not mount the sensor transmitter to a tree, metal fence, or gate.

    Troubleshooting

    Problem Solution
    Receiver doesn't sound when a vehicle passes Check the receiver isn't in Temporary/Permanent Silent Mode (solid red LED); rotate the sensor transmitter to verify it clicks; confirm sensor and receiver are within operating range; check/replace sensor batteries; reprogram the receiver (clear memory, then re-program the device).
    Sensor transmitter doesn't activate when a car passes Confirm sensor and receiver are within range; adjust sensitivity; ensure no vehicle passes between sensor and receiver; move the sensor closer to the driveway edge; test by passing a steel shovel/large magnet near the sensor (should click and flash the receiver's red LED); check/replace batteries (solar units: charge in direct sunlight 48 hrs, use AA NiMH only); reprogram the receiver.
    Receiver sounds with no vehicle passing Check the sensor is mounted firmly and not affected by wind; confirm it's at least 25 ft from the road; remove nearby metal objects that could move; reprogram the receiver.

May cause interference to radio/TV reception in some installations — try reorienting/relocating the antenna, increasing separation, using a different outlet, or consulting a technician.
