    Installation and operation manual for the STI Repeater, Model STI-34109 — a 433 MHz wireless repeater that doubles the transmission range between STI wireless sensors and STI receivers.

    How the Product Works

    The STI REPEATER is a 433 MHz radio signal receiver and transmitter that effectively doubles the transmission range of STI sensors to STI receivers. It filters out any radio signal not using the 433 MHz STI protocol. When any STI protocol signal packet is received (except from an STI 8-Channel Receiver), it retransmits the same signal packet. There is no limit to the number of STI sensors that can be used with a REPEATER.

    Important: multiple REPEATERS should NOT be used within reception range of each other — a REPEATER will retransmit any STI protocol signal packet, so two REPEATERS in range of each other can bounce signal packets back and forth repeatedly. If a dual-REPEATER system or further extended range is needed, use an STI 8-Channel Receiver (STI-34108) instead — it retransmits alert/trouble notifications (not the raw signals themselves), so REPEATER feedback does not occur. The 8-Channel Receiver works with up to 8 different STI wireless sensors.

    Operation

    The REPEATER receives distant STI protocol sensor signals and repeats the information to the receiver. STI sensors typically send 8 identical signal "packets." The REPEATER rejects any signal that is not an STI protocol packet and retransmits the complete 8-packet set to the receiver.

    STI Repeater's Wireless Signals

    • Tamper Signal — sent when tamper switch releases (cover opened or damaged)
    • Tamper Restore Signal — sent when tamper condition is corrected
    • Low Battery Signal — battery charge low
    • Low Battery Restore Signal — low battery condition corrected
    • Supervisory Signal — sent every hour to confirm the REPEATER is in range

    Repeater and Sensor Enrolling

    The receiver can monitor the REPEATER's supervision and trouble signals when it is enrolled (optional). To manually send a REPEATER signal, press and release the tamper switch — the red LED should blink. To enroll sensors, follow the receiver's programming instructions.

    Installation Guide

    The REPEATER is intended to be mounted indoors or in a waterproof environment. Review the Applications Guide (below) for suggested setups.

    1. Press the cover latch to remove the top cover (do not lose the tamper switch spring).
    2. Remove the PCB from the bottom cover. Using the keyholes on the bottom cover as a template, mark the top and bottom mounting holes — locate the hole at least 1 foot from the closest obstruction above.
    3. Drill 3/16" holes.
    4. Insert wall anchors, screws, and washers (provided) and tighten to a 1/8" gap.
    5. Turn off the power supply. Route power supply wires from the side (recommended) or through a hole in the back.
      • Side installation — route wires through the right wire guide, then the left wire guide. Remove the knockout on the top cover.
      • Rear installation — run wires through the back wire guide, then the left wire guide.
    6. Place the bottom cover keyholes onto the screws and orient the device vertically.
    7. Tighten the screws.
    8. On the PCB, insert the antennas into the outer antenna terminals marked "ANTENNA." Tighten the antenna terminal screws.
    9. Snap the PCB into the bottom cover so the antennas rest on the plastic stands.
    10. Remove the battery tab. The red LED blinks when the batteries are installed. If the LED does not blink, press and release the tamper switch. If it still does not blink, replace the batteries.
    11. Insert the 12-volt AC or DC power supply leads into the terminals marked "AC/DC 12V" — positive/negative polarity is interchangeable (either +/- or -/+ orientation is fine).
    12. Turn on the power supply. The green LED turns on. If the red LED is also on, replace the 3 AAA alkaline batteries.
    13. (Optional) Program the REPEATER and/or sensors into the receiver, following the receiver's programming instructions. The receiver can monitor the REPEATER's supervision and trouble signals when enrolled. To manually send a REPEATER signal, press and release the tamper switch — the red LED blinks when transmitting.
    14. If the REPEATER or sensors do not program properly, move the REPEATER mounting location closer to the receiver.
    15. Latch the top cover in place, ensuring the power supply wires are routed properly.

    Applications Guide (System Layouts)

    The manual illustrates several supported system layouts (diagrams included in the original PDF):

    • General Use (single Repeater): for an "out of range" sensor, position the REPEATER between the sensor and the receiver. If some sensors are already "in range" of the receiver, mount the REPEATER closer to the out-of-range sensor so it does not also pick up in-range sensor packets. If the REPEATER can't avoid picking up in-range sensor packets too, options include: moving the receiver to force in-range sensors out of range, purchasing an STI 8-Channel Receiver to mirror the out-of-range packets, continuing to use the receiver as-is (duplicate packets shouldn't change receiver operation), or reconfiguring the system.
    • Multiple Sensor/Receiver System: the REPEATER receives and transmits any STI protocol signal packets (except from an 8-Channel Receiver), allowing multiple sensors to pass packets through the REPEATER to multiple receivers.
    • Extended Range System: the REPEATER can extend sensor range to a multiple STI 8-Channel Receiver mirroring system, supporting system spans of up to 6,000 ft with a full mirrored system.
    • Central Monitoring of Multiple Locations: a receiver or group of receivers can be monitored from a central location between multiple REPEATERS, as long as the REPEATERS themselves stay out of range of each other.
