Specifications for the STI Horn/Strobe Damage Stoppers® series (STI-1210, 1215, 1217, 1219, 1221, 1225, 1227, 1229).
Specifications for the STI Horn/Strobe Damage Stoppers® series (STI-1210, STI-1215, STI-1217, STI-1219, STI-1221, STI-1225, STI-1227, STI-1229) — virtually indestructible protective covers for fire alarm horn/speaker and strobe units, designed to prevent accidental damage and vandalism.
These clear, thick, UV-stabilized polycarbonate covers protect horn, speaker, and strobe alarm devices from vandalism and accidental damage. Slotted versions (STI-1210, 1215, 1217, 1219) allow the horn to be heard through the cover; solid versions (STI-1221, 1225, 1227, 1229) are for strobe-only alarms. All covers carry a three-year guarantee against breakage of the polycarbonate in normal use.
Various back box and spacer depths are available to accommodate special applications, retrofits, surface-mount, and weather-resistant installations. Unique Enviro Kits are available for extreme conditions where dampness or standing water is present.
Overall dimensions: Height 8.5 in. (216mm), Width 6.5 in. (165mm). Depth varies by spacer: A = 6.25 in. (159mm), B = 3.5 in. (89mm), C = 4.75 in. (120mm), D = 5.75 in. (146mm), E = 4 in. (102mm).
Overall dimensions match the STI-1210 series (Height 8.5 in./216mm, Width 6.5 in./165mm), with the same A–E depth options.
*Hazardous-location models also available — see STI-1229.
Use of a horn/strobe cover on an audible device decreases sound output by approximately 6 dB(A) for typical horns (e.g. Amseco Audible Horn Sounders: 6.2 dBA loss) and less for speakers (e.g. Siemens Adapter Series at 0.5/1/2 watt taps: 4.1 dBA loss). Light loss percentage varies by manufacturer/model of the underlying strobe or horn/strobe unit — the manual includes a detailed compatibility chart listing light loss percentages (ranging roughly 20%–61%) for devices from ADT Security, EST/Edwards, Honeywell, Mircom, Siemens, Ziton, Amseco, Detection Systems, Gentex, Harrington Signal, National Time & Signal, Secutron, Faraday, System Sensor, Potter Electric, and Wheelock. Consult the full PDF for the exact figure matching your installed device.
