Installation instructions for the STI Exit Stopper® STI-6400 Series — a door alarm that helps prevent unauthorized exits/entries. Covers the base 6400 unit plus the double-door (6402), remote horn (6403), combination (6404), and momentary-reset (6405) variants.

Safety Warnings

• Recommended for indoor use only.
• Test the unit periodically to verify battery life. STI recommends changing the 9V battery twice a year.
• In a loud work environment, consider a remote horn (STI-6403 or STI-6404); test connections periodically to confirm audible sound level.
• Maximum of three remote alarms may be used in parallel.

The Remote Horn contains its own internal 9V battery and operates when the Form C contact at the main unit is activated on alarm.

Circuit Board Switch Settings

All models ship with a jumper wire across the RS2 terminals for use with one reed switch. If using a second reed switch, remove the jumper and insert the second reed switch. Disconnect all power sources before changing switch settings.

Battery Replacement

If low battery is detected (flashes once a minute, beeps once every three minutes), replace the 9VDC battery. With all power and battery removed, flip switch 6 on/off to reset the supervisory circuit, then replace the battery and any remote power.

Test Alarm (Before Mounting)

STI recommends testing the alarm in factory default switch settings prior to mounting. Disconnect all power sources before changing switch settings.

1. Make sure the key switch is in the OFF position.
2. Remove the tamper screw on the side of the unit using the provided tamper wrench. Remove the housing cover. Save the wrench for future service/battery replacement.
3. Connect the battery.
4. Place the magnet next to the reed switch (for STI-6402/6404, place the magnet next to reed switches 1 & 2).
5. Turn the key switch to ON.
6. Move the magnet away from the reed switch — the unit should alarm immediately.
7. Turn the unit off with the key to silence the alarm.
8. Apply the optional bilingual label if desired.

Installation

1. Set the circuit board switches to your desired alarm settings.
2. If using an external power source, use a Class II UL Listed 12–24VDC supply. If not using the 9V battery, make sure switch 6 is "ON" before connecting power.
3. Mount the main unit on or next to the door using the hardware provided. The reed switch can be located in one of four internal positions, or routed through the slot in the bottom of the cover.
4. Mount the magnet using the provided hardware. The magnet must be within ¾" of the reed switch when the door is closed. On metal doors or frames, use the plastic spacers provided (2 spacers under both the magnet and reed switch on steel doors).
5. For STI-6402, STI-6403, STI-6404, or STI-6405, see the model-specific notes below.
6. Replace the cover by sliding the flanges on the inside of the cover into the slots on the base, snap closed, and replace the tamper screw.

STI-6402 Double Door Install Notes

• If not using an extra reed switch, leave the jumper wire across the RS2 terminals on the terminal block.
• STI provides one internal reed switch with ~14" wire and one reed switch with ~72" wire (cut to desired length).
• The first reed switch connects to RS1. Remove the jumper and connect the second reed switch to RS2.
• The alarm sounds when either door is opened.

STI-6403 Remote Horn Install Notes

1. Remove the cover.
2. Move relay function (switch 8) to "ON".
3. Connect two-conductor wire (14–24 AWG, not provided) from the main unit's terminal block pins COM and NO to the remote horn's terminal block. Units can be up to 300 ft. apart; not polarity sensitive.
4. Connect the internal battery.
5. Mount similar to the main unit with #8 × 1 in. screws and anchors if necessary.
6. Replace the cover and screws.
7. Turn the key switch to ON.

Note: the ON/OFF key position is opposite from the main 6400 unit. The remote horn sounds when the main unit's alarm activates.

STI-6404 Double Door with Remote Horn

Combination unit for double doors with a remote horn. Reference the main unit, STI-6402, and STI-6403 installation instructions above for complete installation.

STI-6405 Exit Stopper with Momentary Reset

Uses a momentary switch. After initial installation the unit is always on — there's no need to remember to turn it on when leaving a protected area, and no need to re-arm it since it's never off. When the alarm triggers, insert the key, turn it completely to the "RESET" position, hold for 2 seconds, then release; the switch springs back to its original position and pushes the key out. To turn the unit off entirely, supply power must be removed.

Mounting Options

The unit supports typical flush-mount doorjamb installation and typical recessed-mount doorjamb installation. In both cases, the magnet must be installed opposite the raised rib on the outer cover, with a maximum gap of ¾" (19mm) between magnet and reed switch (3/8" / 9.5mm on metal doors and frames). Use spacers as necessary, with 2 spacers required under both the magnet and reed switch on steel doors. When the reed switch is mounted on the door and the main unit on the wall, a wire service loop must be used.
