Installation and programming manual for the STI-34752 Wireless Outdoor PIR Motion Detector — a high-grade professional motion sensor with Dual-Frequency Infrared (DFIR™) opto-electronics for maximum false-alarm rejection.

Description

The STI-34752 uses special DFIR opto-electronics engineered to provide the highest level of false-alarm immunity available in a passive infrared motion sensor. A moving object produces two distinct signal frequencies; typical false-alarm sources (white light, EMI, hot air, stationary changing-temperature objects) produce only one frequency — the sensor rejects one-frequency signals, cutting false alarms. It features a six-element DFIR detection system.

Sensor Initialization

After a 30-second warm-up (LED flashes during warm-up), the sensor is fully operational and starts a 3-minute walk test mode.

Walk Test

1. LED lights for 3 minutes when motion is sensed (walk test only).
2. Wireless transmissions are sent for each detection — the walk test can double as a receiver test.
3. Motion sensing locks out for 20 seconds after the LED flashes.
4. When complete, replace the sensor base by snapping it back onto the unit.

Note: the STI-34752 should be walk-tested once per year.

Alarm Processing & Pet Immunity

Alarm processing goes beyond standard PIR sensors that simply count signal events — fields of view are structured so moving objects produce two detector signals of different frequencies, while non-moving false-alarm sources produce two signals of the same frequency.

The sensor is designed to allow pets weighing 100 lbs / 45 kg or lighter to move within its field of view without triggering an alarm, using a special micro-element lens array that produces much stronger optical signals for humans than for lighter pets. Sensitivity is factory calibrated per unit to discriminate between humans and pets.

Caution: some pets — especially larger, short-haired ones — may still produce enough infrared radiation to trigger a false alarm even under 100 lbs. Test the sensor with your own pets before relying on pet immunity.

Operation

• After sending an alarm transmission, motion sensing locks out for 3 minutes to conserve battery life.
• The walk-test LED does not activate in normal operating mode — only during walk test.
• Tamper alarm triggers when the cover is opened.
• Supervisory signal is sent every hour.

Programming Instructions

1. Remove the base by releasing the snap closure at the bottom center.
2. Put the receiver into program mode (refer to your receiver's instructions).
3. Remove the battery cover and Mylar tab — the unit should immediately program into the receiver. If not, press the tamper switch. Snap the battery cover back in place.

Mounting Instructions

1. Remove the screw knockouts on the sensor base for mounting.
2. Mount at the ideal height of 7.5 ft using the provided screws (and optional anchors).
3. Snap the unit back onto the sensor base — it immediately enters a 3-minute walk test. To reset the walk test, remove the cover and reattach.

Mounting Notes

• Ensure a clear line of sight from sensor to monitored area — glass will block the sensor's view.
• Wall temperature should be similar to the walls/floor of the monitored area.
• Aim away from windows and reflected sunlight, and away from heaters or heater/cooler outlets.
• Aim so an intruder's path crosses three fields of view.

Detection range extends to 33 ft / 10M in the sensor-facing direction. Mount the sensor so that pets occupy only the lighter-colored (less sensitive) zones of the pattern as shown in the full PDF diagram.
