Speco HRL Series DVR (H6HRL/H16HRL/H24HRL) — Quick Start Guide

Quick start guide for the Speco HRL Series Hybrid Digital Video Recorders — H6HRL (6-channel), H16HRL (16-channel), and H24HRL (24-channel). These hybrid DVRs support a mix of TVI and IP camera channels for flexible analog/IP security installations. Model Overview

• H6HRL — 6 Channel Hybrid DVR: 4 configurable hybrid channels (TVI or IP) plus 2 IP channels

Initial Setup — Step by Step

1. Check contents: Inspect the unit for visible damage and confirm all accessories are included. Verify the model number and serial number on the unit label match the package label.
2. Make connections in this order:
   • Connect analog cameras to the BNC video input ports
   • Connect a monitor via VGA or HDMI cable (not included)
   • Connect the included optical mouse to any USB port
   • Connect the power adapter and plug into a 120VAC 50/60Hz outlet
   • Connect to network (optional)
3. Set password and security questions: On initial bootup you'll be prompted to set a password (default admin login ID is admin) and choose/answer two security questions. Remember these — they're needed to reset a locked-out password, and answers are case-sensitive.
4. Check/update firmware: Go to Start → Settings → System → Information → Basic → "About this machine" → View to see the current firmware build date. Compare against the latest version at www.specotech.com (Support → Recorder Software Updates). To update: copy the firmware to a USB drive, insert it into the DVR, then go to Start → Settings → System → Maintenance → Upgrade, select the USB device and firmware file, and click Upgrade. Do not power off the DVR during the update — it will restart automatically when finished.

EZ Setup Wizard

After bootup, the EZ Setup wizard walks through initial configuration (right-click and select "EZ Setup" if it doesn't appear automatically). Check "Enable EZ setup next time" to have it run on every reboot.

• Date & Time: Set system time/date format, toggle Daylight Saving Time, choose 12- or 24-hour format, and optionally specify an NTP server for automatic sync.
• Network Setup: Go to Start → Settings → Network → TCP/IP to set IP address, subnet mask, and gateway (or enable DHCP on both DVR and router). Under Network → Port, set the HTTP port (default 80) and server port (default 6036).
• UPnP Configuration: Enables WAN access without manual port mapping — requires the router to support UPnP. Go to Start → Settings → Network → UPnP, match the DVR's IP/subnet/gateway to the router, check Enable, and click Apply. If status shows "Invalid UPnP" after refreshing, switch mapping type to Manual and adjust the port number until it reads "Valid UPnP."
• DDNS Settings: Speco provides free DDNS service via "specoddns.net" for remote access via domain name instead of a changing dynamic IP. Configure under Start → Settings → Network → DDNS, test the domain, then access remotely at [yourdomain].specoddns.net.
• EZ Camera Setup: Click Refresh to discover IP cameras on the local network, then add individual cameras or use "Add All." Edit an added camera's IP, username, and password as needed; use "Sync to IPC" to align network segments between camera and DVR.
• Disk Settings: View disk number, capacity, serial number, and read/write status. Use "Formatting" to format a new disk.
• Record Settings: Choose Auto Mode (select a preset and click Advanced to customize) or Manual Mode (set Sensor Record, Motion Record, and Schedule Record individually per camera).
• QR Code for Remote App Viewing: Enable the NAT function, then scan the QR code with the Speco Blue App (iOS/Android) to view cameras remotely.

Web Browser & Cloud Access

Enable NAT under Start → Settings → Network → NAT and note the QR code number. Using Internet Explorer, go to connect.specotech.cloud, enter the QR code number plus your username and password to log in remotely.

Playback & Export

Go to Start → Playback to view recorded footage. The panel shows channel numbers with recorded data color-coded on a timeline — drag the bar to select a section, then click Export to back up single or multiple channels at once.

EZ Search 2.0

Located at Start → Search and Export → EZ Search. Offers time-view and camera-view modes with video thumbnails (up to 64 thumbnails in time view). Select a camera and click Open, then click a thumbnail to preview it in the small playback window. Drag color blocks on the time scale to select footage, then click Backup to choose device, format, and path for export.
