Installation and setup guide for the Somfy Z-Wave Digital Motor Interface (ZDMI, part no. 1870171) — a Z-Wave routing device that converts Z-Wave commands into motor control signals for Somfy's Sonesse 50 ILT2 (AC) and Sonesse 30 RS485 (DC) window covering motors.

    Description

The ZDMI resides as a node within a Z-Wave control network. It receives Z-Wave transmissions and converts them into motor control commands, and also relays motor feedback information back to the Z-Wave network.

    General Requirements

    • Sonesse 30 RS485 Motor: Powered externally by +24VDC. Using the Power Cable (part no. 9016020), the white wire (+24VDC) goes on the left and the black wire (-24VDC) on the right when plugged into the interface.
    • Sonesse 50 ILT2 Motor: Powered by the ILT Com Cable once the motor itself is connected to 120V AC.
    • The interface must be mounted within 30 feet of each motor head, connected via a Com cable to its modular communication port.
    • One ZDMI interface is required for each Sonesse 50 ILT2 or Sonesse 30 RS485 motor.

    Z-Wave Certification

    • Z-Wave certified — works with all Z-Wave certified controllers.
    • Supports the association command class to send unsolicited status reports on a change of state.
    • Supports 1 association group with up to 5 Z-Wave Node IDs.
    • On a change of state, sends both a Hail Command and a Basic Report to node IDs in association group 1.

    Network Setup

Before including the ZDMI, all wiring must be complete per the wiring diagram, and the motor's electronic limits must already be set (refer to the motor's own instructions).

Including the ZDMI in a Network

    1. Upon power-up, the INCLUSION LED illuminates for 5 seconds, then turns off. Press the SETUP button afterward to verify motor movement.
    2. Select the inclusion command on your Z-Wave controller.
    3. Press the SETUP button to include the ZDMI. The INCLUSION LED should stay illuminated once included.

Excluding the ZDMI from a Network

    1. Select the exclusion command on your Z-Wave controller.
    2. Press the SETUP button — the INCLUSION LED turns off once excluded.

    Operation by Controller

The ZDMI can be operated via 3rd-party automation, handheld/PC controllers, or manually via the SETUP button. Convention used by controllers:

    • Light ON = Window Covering UP; Light OFF = Window Covering DOWN.
    • Light DIM/BRIGHTEN = Window Covering position 0-100% (0% = fully closed at lower limit, 100% = fully open at upper limit). Values between give 99 intermediate positions.

    Manual Operation

    • With the motor at rest, press & release SETUP to send the motor to its upper or lower limit. Press & hold SETUP to move the motor in that direction, releasing to stop at the desired position.
    • While the motor is moving, press & release SETUP to reverse direction to the opposite limit, or press & hold then release to stop at a desired position.

    Factory Reset

    Sonesse 30 RS485 Motor

    1. Remove the 24VDC power from the interface.
    2. Press & hold SETUP while plugging the 24VDC power back in. Continue holding — the INCLUSION LED blinks slowly, then rapidly after 5 seconds.
    3. Release SETUP once the LED blinks rapidly. The LED will remain off.

    Sonesse 50 ILT2 Motor

    1. Unplug the motor's communications cable from the interface.
    2. Press & hold SETUP while plugging the motor back in. Continue holding — the INCLUSION LED blinks slowly, then rapidly after 5 seconds.
    3. Release SETUP once the LED blinks rapidly. The LED will remain off.
