Product specifications for the Simply Automated UCQT-40(-W) UPB Scene Controller — a 4-button, 4-status-LED switch base for controlling and tracking Universal Powerline Bus (UPB) lighting scenes.

    Overview

The SimplyBrilliant® UCQT-40 is a UPB transceiver switch base that requires a separate 4-button faceplate (Oval ZS24OS series or Thin-Bar ZS24BS series, sold separately in white, almond, light almond, ivory, black, or brown). The UCQT-40-W model includes a white oval-button faceplate pre-attached. Custom label kits (model ZLK-01S) let you label buttons/LEDs to identify each scene. The UCQT also fits the Tabletop Pedestal accessory (model ZTP2-W/-BK) and is available as a pre-assembled unit (model USQT) — useful for bedside lighting control or monitoring outdoor lights.

The UCQT-40 transmits and receives UPB lighting scene links but has no local light-circuit output — for local load control, see model US2-40 (up to 900W) or US22-40 (dual dimmer, 2×550W max).

Advantages of UPB (Universal Powerline Bus)

    • No new wires — multi-packet communication over existing power lines; transmits/receives UPB scenes; 2–250 UPB devices per network, 250 scenes
    • Exceptional reliability and noise immunity; no interference between adjacent homes
    • Easily configured/reconfigured with UPStart (PC) software, including a wizard for first-time users

    Features

    • Four green LEDs indicate scene link status (on/off), can track load status, with 8 scene-link presets controlling LED functions: On, Off, Opposite, or No Change
    • Four buttons for scene control — On, Off, or Dim scenes or other UPB devices; button modes: On, Off, Toggle, Multi-button, etc.
    • SimplySmart™ manual scene link changes — add/delete devices from a scene with 7–8 button taps; adjust and save linked devices' light level with 7 taps (no UPStart software needed)
    • Interchangeable faceplate assemblies — change color in the field, choose Oval or Thin-Bar buttons, custom-label with the ZLK-01S kit
    • Thinner depth profile for easy installation
    • UL and CSA listed per ETL #3058914

    Applications

Used where lighting scenes/loads need status indication when not clearly visible from the controller's location — outdoor lighting, multi-story or large homes, master bedroom or entry/exit locations for "welcome home"/"away" scenes. Also useful as a UPB transmitter-only device since it has no output circuit.

Retrofit tip: Pair with a UPB Dual Dimmer (model US22-40) in a dual j-box — the dimmer takes over the two load switches in half the box while the UCQT scene controller occupies the other half, avoiding difficult re-wiring. For single-gang retrofits, use a UPB fixture dimmer (UFD) or relay module (UFR) at the load/fixture j-box, with the switch leg run back to the scene controller. The Tabletop Pedestal (model USQT) is another common retrofit option — portable, plugs into any outlet.
