    Getting Started guide for the Simply Automated Security Panel Lamp Module Starter Kit (Model DKIT-03SP), part of the Pre-Configured SimplySmart™ Series — no computer programming required. The kit connects Simply Automated lighting to any alarm panel with low-voltage or contact-closure output capability, and includes 2 Lamp Modules plus 1 I/O Module with 3 inputs/2 outputs.

    Important Safety Instructions

    • Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician.
    • Keep away from water — disconnect immediately if contact occurs.
    • Never use products that have been dropped or damaged.
    • Do not use outdoors, or for anything other than the product's intended use.
    • Do not connect multiple lamps that, combined, exceed the maximum load rating (de-rated for multi-gang boxes).
    • Do not install in areas that can exceed 120°F (e.g., an attic).
    • Do not use this product to control a receptacle (overheating/equipment damage risk).
    • Do not cover the product with any material while in use.

    Pre-Installation Notes

    • The security panel needs one or more low-voltage or contact-closure outputs to interface with the I/O Module.
    • The home should be no more than 2,500 sq. ft. with only one breaker panel. A phase coupler may be required in some installations (see Phase Coupler section).
    • Not intended for multi-dwelling units (condo, apartment, duplex).

    Installing the Lamp Modules

    Locate 2 lamps to control. Plug a lamp module into a wall outlet, then plug a lamp into the socket on the bottom of the module and turn the lamp's own switch ON. Repeat for the second lamp module.

    Device ID note: each lamp module has a specific device ID printed on its box and on the back of the unit. One module is ID #14, the other is ID #15 — important for operation with the I/O Module and the optional Pocket Programmer.

    Installing the I/O Module

    Plug the I/O Module into a 110VAC receptacle in/near the alarm panel. It has 3 pre-configured inputs (low-voltage 4–5VAC/DC or contact closure) to turn the 2 lamp modules on/off. Connect the security panel's discrete trigger outputs to the correct terminals:

    • Input 1 – Low voltage only, terminals 6 & 7: turns on/off first lamp module (#14). Typical uses: delay entry/exit lighting, arm/disarm acknowledgement, door strike or motion sensor interface.
    • Input 2 – Contact (terminals 9 & 10) or low voltage (terminals 8 & 9): turns blinking on/off for all lamp modules. Typical use: fire, intrusion, or panic alarms.
    • Input 3 – Contact (terminals 15 & 16) or low voltage (terminals 14 & 15): turns on/off all lamp modules (no blink). Typical use: fire, intrusion, or panic alarms.

    Low-voltage inputs are differential — polarity does not matter. Installer must program the security panel for each trigger interface type.

    Testing the I/O Module

    • Input 1: apply a low-voltage source (e.g., 9V battery) to terminals 6/7 to turn on lamp #14; disconnect to turn off.
    • Input 2: apply low voltage to terminals 8/9 (or short-circuit contact closure at 9/10) to flash both lamp modules; remove to turn off.
    • Input 3: apply low voltage to terminals 14/15 (or short-circuit contact closure at 15/16) to turn on both lamp modules; remove to turn off.

    You'll hear a soft buzz when the I/O Module transmits a signal. If you hear the buzz but a lamp doesn't respond, check the lamp's own physical on/off switch first. If it still doesn't work, see the Phase Coupler section below.

    Adding Additional Dimmers & Lamp Modules

    Add up to two additional dimmers or lamp modules (PN: UML7, UML8 lamp modules; PN: US1W9, US1W10 dimmers). Fully compatible accessories interface with the I/O Module and security panel out of the box — each added accessory automatically blinks when Input 2 is triggered and goes on/off when Input 3 is triggered. Only one of each pre-configured accessory PN can be ordered per installation.

    Adding Lighting Control & Automation

    Create custom lighting scenes (reading, dining, entertaining) with 4-button scene controllers — Tabletop Controller (PN: US2TP11) or Deluxe Dimmer (PN: US2W12). Related pre-configured kits: Dimmer Starter Kit (DKIT-01) includes 2 dimmers + deluxe dimmer with 4-button scene control; Lamp Starter Kit (DKIT-02) includes 2 lamp modules + tabletop controller with 4-button scene control.

    Using the Pocket Programmer (Model UPP-20, sold separately)

    Recommended for installers doing multiple installations:

    1. Network ID: all devices in the pre-configured series share network ID 250 by default; the Pocket Programmer can assign a unique ID per installation (important security feature, prevents cross-chatter with a neighbor's system).
    2. Links: Input 1 = link 66 (on/off, one device); Input 2 = link 65 (blinking on/off, all devices); Input 3 = link 64 (on/off, all devices). All pre-configured accessories automatically work with Inputs 2 and 3.
    3. Signal Strength/Noise Testing: the Pocket Programmer can check for powerline noise/interference from other electrical devices in the home.
    4. Computer Interface Module: connects to a PC via serial for use with UPStart software for custom installations.

    Troubleshooting: Phase Coupler

    If lamp modules test fine individually but the I/O Module can't turn on all lamps, your home's circuits may be out of phase. Homes have a 220V feed split into two 110V phases (A and B) at the main panel — a phase coupler bridges the two phases.

    Simply Automated Custom Expansion Series

    For larger installs, the Computer Interface Module (PN: UMC-USB) plus UPStart software supports up to 250 devices — single-rocker dimmers, deluxe dimmers (up to 8 buttons), lamp/appliance modules, tabletop pedestals, wall receptacles, fixture relays/dimmers, and scheduler-timers. Controls lighting and 120VAC appliances, heaters, fans, motors, or pumps, with programmable dimming rates (1 second to 4 hours) and an energy-saving countdown timer.
