User's Manual for the Sensaphone Model 800 Desktop Monitoring System — fully-programmable environmental monitoring with telephone dial-out alerting.
User's Manual for the Sensaphone® Model 800 Desktop Monitoring System — a fully-programmable environmental monitoring system with phone dial-out alerting, for small businesses, homes, farms, greenhouses, computer rooms, and remote facilities.
The Model 800 is designed for desktop or wall mounting and requires no changes to standard electrical or telephone service. When connected to a telephone line, it responds to an alarm by dialing up to four separate telephone numbers, delivering a user-recordable voice "Alert Condition" message when the call is answered.
The unit has 8 alert zones total. Additional sensors (available separately from Sensaphone) can extend monitoring to intrusion/unauthorized entry, water leaks, temperature, humidity, equipment operation, and more.
Front panel includes: Programming Keypad, Power Jack, Phone Extension Jack, Phone Line Jack, Speaker, Built-in Microphone, System On LED, Phone-in-Use LED, Alarm LED, Battery OK LED, Battery Compartment, and an Input/Output Wiring Door.
| LED | Off | Blinking | On |
|---|---|---|---|
| System On | Unit is off | Standby mode | Run mode |
| Phone-In-Use | Phone line not in use | No telephone service detected | Unit/device communicating on phone line |
| Alarm | No alarms exist | Unacknowledged alarm exists | Acknowledged alarm exists |
| Battery OK | No battery / critically low | Battery condition low | Battery condition good |
Sensaphone recommends weekly testing to ensure the unit will function properly when needed:
| Problem | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Unit says "Error 1" | Invalid value entered, or timed out entering a value | Enter values within the allowed range in a timely fashion |
| Unit says "Error 2" | Programming attempted without unlocking the keypad | Unlock the keypad, then make changes |
| Model 800 fails to dial out | Wrong number programmed; tone/pulse mismatch; recognition time too long; incompatible (digital) phone line | Recheck programmed number; switch tone/pulse setting; shorten recognition time; connect to a standard 2-wire analog line |
| Won't answer for Status Report or acknowledgment | Rings Until Answer misconfigured, or line limits ring count (e.g. max 4 rings) | Recheck Rings Until Answer setting; try fewer than 4 rings; try a standard residential line |
| Won't answer for Callback Acknowledgment | Didn't let phone ring long enough (10 rings if TAD disabled) | Let it ring 10 times if TAD is disabled; if TAD enabled, call, let it ring once, hang up, wait 10 seconds, call back within 30 seconds |
| Recites messages by phone but silent on-site | Local Voice Mute is active | Deactivate Local Voice Mute |
| Temperature reads -20°F/-30°C | Sensor disconnected or wire broken | Examine and reconnect/replace wiring |
| Temperature reads 150°F/65°C | Sensor wires shorted | Verify and correct wiring |
| False high-temperature alarms from a freezer | Normal defrost cycle raises temperature temporarily | Set a zone recognition time longer than the defrost cycle |
| Frequent false high-sound alarms | Sound sensitivity too high, or recognition time too short | Reprogram sound sensitivity and/or lengthen recognition time |
| False power-out alarms | Power failure recognition time too short (brief AC interruptions) | Increase power failure recognition time |
| Doesn't recognize any alarm | Zones disabled, or recognition time too long | Enable zones; shorten recognition time as needed |
| Batteries drain prematurely | AC transformer unplugged, forcing battery-only operation | Keep AC transformer plugged in; remove batteries when storing the unit |
If issues persist after trying the above: remove the batteries, unplug the unit, wait one minute, plug the AC adapter back in, then replace the batteries.
