Installation and operation manual for the North American Cable Equipment / SecurityTronix ST-WD650PTZMINI-12X — a professional-grade, IP-66 rated outdoor dome color PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) camera with 12X optical zoom.

Product Description

The ST-WD650PTZMINI-12X is a 12VDC-powered outdoor dome camera with pan, tilt, and zoom capability. It saves all settings in non-volatile memory and features a 12X optical zoom (5mm–60mm) lens paired with a Sony Super HAD II Color CCD delivering 650TVL color / 700TVL B&W resolution.

Safety Warnings

• CAUTION: To reduce risk of electrical shock, do not remove the cover or back of the unit — no user-serviceable parts inside.
• CAUTION: To prevent electric shock and fire hazard, do not use any power source other than the one specified.

Installation Overview

Assembly

1. Remove the rear mounting plate using the supplied Allen key wrench.
2. Guide the camera dome's wiring harness through the hole in the end of the mounting arm and out through the base of the mount, without kinking or scraping the wires.
3. Feed the stub of the camera dome into the hole in the mounting arm, aligning the 3 threaded holes on the camera tube with the 3 holes in the mounting arm.
4. Attach the camera dome to the mounting arm using the 4 supplied Phillips head screws.

Special Attention Before Installing

• Comply with electrical safety standards; keep sufficient space between the camera's power supply/video line and any high-voltage equipment or cables.
• Do not install in an environment above 114°F, near a magnetic field or high-power motor, or near a radiator or heater.
• The installation site and mounting material must fully support the product's weight.
• Clean only with a dry cloth or, for stubborn dirt, a mild detergent — never strong or abrasive detergents.
• Use a 12VDC power supply rated 1A or higher; an AC or incorrect power supply will damage the camera.
• Only qualified installers should install, test, and disassemble the camera.
• If installed outdoors, proper safety grounding and lightning grounding are required.
• Verify grounding, wiring, input power, voltage, DIP switches, communication protocol, and baud rate are correctly set before powering up.

Wiring Connections

1. Connect the power supply's 12VDC plug to the camera's power jack.
2. Connect the camera's BNC connector to a DVR (or monitor) using a 75Ω coaxial video cable.
3. Connect unshielded twisted pair wire (UTP) between the camera's RS485 wires and the PTZ controller — the purple wire is positive (A, +) and the grey wire is negative (B, -). Ensure matching polarity at each end.
4. Connect the power supply's AC plug to a suitable AC wall outlet.

Setting Camera Address, Protocol, and Baud Rate

All settings are configured through the camera's On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, accessed via a Pelco D-compliant PTZ controller. Default settings on power-up:

• Protocol: Pelco D
• Address: 1
• Baud rate: 9600

To access the menu, set your PTZ controller to match these defaults, then press "Iris Open" (or "Open"). The menu can also be accessed by calling preset 95. Navigate with UP/DOWN to move through the menu, LEFT/RIGHT to change values, and OPEN to enter a sub-menu or confirm a selection such as EXIT MENU.

NOTE: 9600 baud is only recommended for very short cable runs (30–40 ft or less). For best overall PTZ operation at longer distances, a baud rate of 2400 bps is strongly recommended.

On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu Reference

• SHUTTER/AGC: Controls how the camera reacts to lighting conditions; MANUAL or AUTO sub-menus. Manual setup is recommended only for extremely bright or dark, consistent-light conditions — AUTO is preferred for most cases.
• WHITE BAL (white balance): 6 modes — MANUAL, ATW, USER 1, USER 2 (plus 2 more). USER 1/2 provide the same settings as ATW (Speed, Delay, ATW Frame, Environment). Default ATW values are preferred in most cases.
• BACKLIGHT: OFF (no compensation); BLC (reduces bright-area intensity, increases dark-area gain for foreground definition against a bright background); HLC (blacks out bright areas to prevent oversaturation).
• PICT ADJUST: Adjusts MIRROR (flips image horizontally), BRIGHTNESS, CONTRAST, SHARPNESS, HUE, and GAIN.
• ATR (Adaptive Tone Reproduction): Gradation compensation improving contrast where both low- and high-luminance areas exist in the same picture; adjustable LUMINANCE and CONTRAST parameters.
• MOTION DET: Not implemented on this camera model.

• PRIVACY: Not implemented on this camera model.
• DAY/NIGHT: COLOR (forces color mode at all times), AUTO (recommended default values), or B/W (with adjustable BURST on/off).
• NR (Noise Reduction): Y, C, Y&C, or OFF, with adjustable Y/C levels.
• CAMERA ID: Displays a name on screen if set to ON; enter via the on-screen character picker.
• LANGUAGE: ENGLISH, FRENCH, SPANISH, RUSSIAN, and others.
• CAMERA RESET: Resets all Camera Module settings (sections above) to factory default — does NOT reset presets/tours. Erases all user camera-module settings.

Focus Setup Menu

• FOCUS TYPE: AUTO (factory default, recommended) or MANUAL.
• AF AFTER MOVE: ON re-focuses automatically after each move/zoom change; OFF retains the prior focus setting.
• PRESET LOAD ZOOM: ON restores stored pan/tilt/zoom on preset recall; OFF ignores stored zoom level.
• AUTO CHECK FOCUS / AUTO CHECK TIME: Periodically re-checks focus (requires AUTO focus mode); check interval adjustable 0–255 seconds.
• DISPLAY ZOOM TIMES: Shows zoom multiplication (1X–12X) superimposed on the OSD when ON.

Pan/Tilt Setup Menu

• PAN TILT PRESET: NORMAL (standard preset-to-preset movement), FAST (fastest movement, may land slightly off-position), or EXACT (double-checks position on arrival, most accurate but slower).
• TILT LIMIT SET / RESET: Sets or clears a maximum tilt point the camera won't exceed.
• PAN TILT LIMIT SPEED / ZOOM LIMIT SPEED: Maximum pan/tilt or zoom speed, 1–63 (63 = 100% full speed, recommended for zoom).

Pattern Setup Menu

• PATTERN TOUR: START begins a preset tour on menu exit; STOP halts it.
• PATTERN POINT NUM: Sets the highest preset number included in the tour (1–32).
• PATTERN DWELL TIME: Seconds the camera stays at each tour preset before moving on (5–255 sec).
• AUTO RETURN HOME: START enables return to a user-set home point after inactivity (per HOME DWELL TIME); STOP disables it.
• HOME DWELL TIME: Seconds of inactivity before returning to the HOME point.
• HOME POINT SETUP: Locks in the current camera view as the HOME point.

Protocol Setup Menu

• PROTOCOL: PELCO-D or PELCO-P (all SecurityTronix PTZ controllers use PELCO-D — check your controller's manual for compatibility).
• ADDRESS: 1–255.
• BAUDRATE: 1200 / 2400 / 4800 / 9600. Lower baud rates support longer cable runs at the cost of throughput; 2400 is recommended for most installations.

Reset Menu

• RESET MENU SETUP: Resets all menu values to factory defaults; does not erase stored presets.
• FACTORY DEFAULT SET: Resets all menu values AND erases all presets/tour settings — use with caution.

Presets

• SET PRESET POINT NUMBERS: Preset # 1–32 to set preset points.
• CALL PRESET POINT NUMBERS: Preset # 1–32 to go to a stored preset.
• CLEAR PRESET POINT NUMBERS: Preset # 1–32 to clear a stored preset.
