    Installation manual for the SECO-LARM SD-996C-NUQ Universal Door Strike — a field-configurable electric strike for wood, aluminum, or metal door frames, with an optional trim plate.

    Overview

    The SD-996C-NUQ can be used with virtually any cylindrical-locking system and can be configured for wood, aluminum, or metal doors. It includes three different ANSI-sized faceplates to match the door frame type, and is easily field-configurable for fail-safe or fail-secure operation.

    Note: Not all parts will be used in every installation.

    Installation Overview

    1. Select the faceplate type for your door frame (see per-frame sections below). If the door is pre-cut for a strike, skip to step 6.
    2. Measure and mark the door latch line and center line of the door.
    3. Apply the included stick-on template to the door frame.
    4. Prepare the door frame for installation and mount the trim plate if needed.
    5. If the frame material is unsuitable for mounting the strike directly (e.g. aluminum), use the included mounting tabs and black anchor nuts.
    6. Configure the strike for fail-safe or fail-secure operation.
    7. Connect to a keypad or exit device.

    Measuring the Latch Line and Center Line

    1. Measure the center line of the door (shown as "Y" on the diagram).
    2. Measure the distance from the door latch to the edge of the door frame — the door latch line (shown as "X").

    Mounting the Template

    Note: The electric strike must be installed so it does not impair the operation of any emergency exit or panic-mounted hardware on the door.

    1. Measure distance "X" from the side of the door frame and distance "Y" from the top; mark where the lines intersect.
    2. Peel off the short, thin tab in the center of the stick-on template — its opening lines up with the X-Y mark.
    3. Peel the template from the backing and carefully apply it to the door frame.

    Preparing the Door Frame

    1. Using the template as a guide, drill mounting holes and cut a hole for the faceplate size in use (cut slightly smaller than necessary).
    2. File to finish the shaping of the frame for a better fit and finish.

    Mounting the Trim Plate (optional)

    If the cut hole is too large or jagged, mount the trim plate over it to improve appearance. Screw the trim plate into the mounting holes at the top and bottom of the door strike using the included trim plate screws. Trim plate is optional and only needed to cover gaps.

    Mounting the Strike Using Mounting Tabs

    Used when the hollow door frame material is unsuitable for direct mounting (commonly for retrofitting):

    1. Punch or drill holes per the template for the mounting tabs and reinforcing anchor nuts.
    2. Do not over-tighten the screws — small adjustments may be needed for a snug fit.

    Selecting Fail-Secure or Fail-Safe Operation

    Factory default is Fail-Safe.

    1. Loosen and move the locking screw.
    2. Loosen the sliding screw, set to the desired position, and retighten both screws.

    Frame-Specific Installation

    Aluminum Door Frame

    Recommended: short brushed aluminum SD-996RA-11Q faceplate with mounting tabs.

    Metal Door Frame

    Recommended: short steel SD-996SS-11Q faceplate. If cutting a hole in the frame, mounting tabs may be needed for reinforcement.

    Wiring Diagram

    For 12VDC Operation

    1. Connect both red wires together, and both black wires together in parallel.
    2. Connect the black wires to – and the red wires to +.

    For 24VDC Operation

    1. Connect one red wire together with one black wire in series.
    2. Connect the remaining black wire to – and the remaining red wire to +.

    Troubleshooting

    Problem Checks / Solutions
    Electric strike does not activate Dismount and check the four wires are connected properly; ensure wires connect to a 12 or 24VDC source; use a multimeter to test voltage/amperage (use heavier gauge wire or increase power supply output if insufficient); confirm the activation device (keypad/push-button) is working.
    Door does not open when the strike is activated Check that the door latch operates properly (replace if necessary); the strike position may need adjustment by moving it or adding washers/shims.
    Strike makes a buzzing sound Use a DC power supply instead of AC.

    Limited Warranty

    This SECO-LARM product is warranted against defects in material and workmanship for three (3) years from date of sale to the original customer, under normal service. SECO-LARM's obligation is limited to repair or replacement of any defective part if the unit is returned, transportation prepaid, to SECO-LARM. Warranty is void for damage from acts of God, misuse or abuse, neglect, unauthorized repair or alteration, improper/abnormal usage, or faulty installation.
