SECO-LARM ENFORCER SD-997A/B Electric Deadbolt — Installation Manual

Installation manual for the SECO-LARM ENFORCER SD-997A (fail-secure) and SD-997B (fail-safe) Electric Deadbolts — concealed electric deadbolts designed for hollow metal door frames.

Overview

The SD-997A/B add concealed deadbolt security to most wood or hollow metal doors with electrical operation. They're designed for hollow metal door frames (the door itself can be wood or metal) and are best suited for office-type applications. The bolt is stainless steel, 5/8" diameter with a 5/8" throw.

Model Differences

• SD-997A — Fail-Secure: locks if power is lost. Includes a separate manual lock/unlock key cylinder for manual operation during a power outage.
• SD-997B — Fail-Safe: unlocks if power is lost.

Installation

1. Determine the mounting location. Can be mounted opposite the door hinges, on the header, or on top of the door away from the hinges. Avoid mounting at the bottom due to dirt/dust buildup risk. For vertical mounting of SD-997B only, wires must come out the top of the unit.
2. Tape the templates to the door frame and door — align so the deadbolt on the lock body template is centered on the deadbolt hole of the strike plate template, leaving room at the ends for mounting tabs.
3. Door frame cut: cut out the space for the lock body, test fit, then drill two 5mm screw holes per the template.
4. Door cut and mount:
   • Wood doors: chisel a 3mm-deep space, drill the magnet hole (12mm wide x 6mm deep), mount the strike plate with 4 wood screws, and drill the deadbolt hole to 16mm (5/8") depth.
   • Hollow metal doors: cut the space for the strike plate, drill two screw holes per mounting tab, and fix the mounting tabs and strike plate with screws.
5. Door jamb cut and mount: cut the space for the lock body face, drill one 5mm hole per mounting tab, and fix the tabs. SD-997A only: insert the lock/unlock cylinder.
6. Connect and insulate the wires (see Wiring section below), pushing all wires into the door frame (cut away part of the dust catcher or drywall carefully if space is tight).
7. Set the door lock delay timer — this is the time it takes for the deadbolt to automatically re-lock after the door closes. (Note: the deadbolt automatically relocks 4 seconds after an optional external push/egress button is pressed, if the door wasn't opened.)
8. SD-997A only — manual lock/unlock cylinder: insert the cylinder and secure with the provided long screw. Turning the key or manual knob unlocks the SD-997A manually.
9. Attach the faceplate over the lock body face using screws to fix both to the mounting tabs.

Wiring

• Red — Power input (+)
• Brown — Power input (–)
• Orange — Control wire (ground to release bolt)
• Green — Door monitor, COM
• Yellow — Door monitor, N.C. (active when door closed)
• Blue — Door monitor, N.O. (active when door open)

SD-997A only, for alarm panel connection: Purple wire — active if door is locked (N.C.); Gray wire — manual lock/unlock (COM); Black wire — active if door is unlocked (N.O.).

Important: Correct polarity of the red and brown wires is critical — reversing polarity will burn out the solenoid.

Warranty

ENFORCER locks are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for one (1) year from date of sale to the original customer. SECO-LARM's obligation is limited to repair or replacement of defective parts, transportation prepaid to SECO-LARM.
