    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation and setup guide for the Russound BTC-2X Bluetooth Remote Transceiver, a Bluetooth 5.1 audio receiver that can be used standalone or paired with Russound MCA-Series controllers.

    Overview

The BTC-2X can be used in multiple ways:

    • As a standalone Bluetooth receiver
    • As a remote Bluetooth receiver with Russound's MCA-66 and MCA-88 controllers
    • As part of the BSK-2 Bluetooth Source Kit, providing multiple Bluetooth inputs to a Russound controller
    • As part of the BSK-2 kit to locate the Bluetooth radio up to 500' (152m) from connected audio gear for maximum range

    Connections

    • Audio Out: 3.5mm stereo output — use a 3.5mm-to-3.5mm or 3.5mm-to-RCA cable (not included) depending on your audio device's input.
    • Power: Included MicroUSB cable + 5VDC power supply. Adaptor plates for US, UK, Euro, and AUS sockets are included — press "Push" to release the current plate, align the new one, and snap into place.
    • Remote Pairing Contact Closure: Rear panel connection allowing an installer to wire a push button or automated smart-home contact closure to trigger pairing mode remotely — useful when the BTC-2X is hidden from sight.
    • RJ-45 (MCA-Series connection): Connects via CAT5 cable (up to 500'/152m) to the "Bluetooth" port on the rear of an MCA-66 or MCA-88 controller, carrying power, data, and audio.

    Pairing Modes

Set via a slide switch on the bottom of the unit:

    • Automatic Pairing: Simplest method, best for residential single-family homes. When not connected, the BTC-2X is always available to pair with any new device requesting pairing.
    • Manual Pairing: Best for multi-dwelling units (condos, apartments) where multiple homes are within Bluetooth range. The BTC-2X will only pair with a new phone/tablet when someone presses the "Pair" button on the rear panel, or activates the Remote Pair contact closure.

    Naming Your BTC-2X

The default name is "BTC-2X-ZZZZ" (ZZZZ = last four digits of the MAC ID). To rename:

    1. Download and install the Russound BTC-2X Naming App (App Store or Google Play).
    2. With the BTC-2X powered up, in range, and already paired to your phone, open the app.
    3. The app automatically discovers all BTC-2X devices in range (swipe down to refresh).
    4. Select your device and tap "Connect".
    5. Enter a new Bluetooth name (up to 15 characters — letters A-Z, numbers 0-9, and "-") and tap "Enter".

To avoid confusion, use a different name than other Bluetooth devices in the home.

Using with a Russound MCA-Series Controller

The BTC-2X pairs perfectly with an MCA-66 or MCA-88 audio controller via the CAT5 RJ-45 connection, which carries power, data, and high-quality audio between the two devices. With its keyhole mounting slots, the BTC-2X can be placed on a shelf or hidden inside a cabinet/wall up to 500' away — wherever gives the strongest Bluetooth signal.

    • If hiding the BTC-2X, Automatic Pairing Mode is recommended.
    • If Manual Pairing is required, a remote button can be wired using the Remote Pair contact closure.

    Setting the Source Number

Before use with an MCA-66 or MCA-88, the source number switch on the bottom of the BTC-2X must match the source number configured in the controller's WebConfig. By default, both the MCA-Series RJ-45 Bluetooth connection and the BTC-2X are set to Source 1 — plug-and-play with no extra configuration needed, provided the controller's Source 1 Source Type is set to "BTC-2X".

    Metadata & Source Control

When connected to an MCA-Series controller, the BTC-2X provides metadata (song titles, album names) visible on compatible Russound keypads, touchscreens, or the Russound app. The same connection also supports source control commands — pause, resume, skip forward/back — from keypads, touchscreens, or the app.
