Installation Guide and Owner's Manual for the PulseWorx KPCW6 and KPCD6 6-Button UPB Keypad Controllers.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation Guide and Owner's Manual for the PulseWorx KPCW6 (wall-mount) and KPCD6 (desktop) 6-Button Keypad Controllers — UPB home automation keypads that control lighting loads over existing power wiring.

    Function

The 6-Button Keypad Controller (KPCx6) is a home automation controller that transmits UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) digital commands over existing power wiring to remotely turn on, off, and dim other UPB load control devices. No additional wiring or RF signals are required for communication.

    Styles

    • KPCW6 (wall-mount): mounts in any wall box containing both line and neutral wires.
    • KPCD6 (desktop): comes in an elegant desktop enclosure that can be freely located near any wall outlet.

    Engraved Pushbuttons

The KPCx6 has six backlit pushbuttons engraved ON, OFF, A, B, C, and D. An optional Custom Engraved Membrane kit (model CEM6) lets you tailor each button's label for its specific use — consult your dealer or www.PulseWorx.com for ordering information.

    Important Safety Instructions

    • Read and follow all safety instructions; save these instructions.
    • Keep away from water — if the product contacts water or another liquid, turn off the circuit breaker and unplug it immediately.
    • Never use a product that has been dropped or damaged.
    • Do not use outdoors, or for any purpose other than intended.
    • Do not cover the product with any material while in use.
    • This product uses polarized plugs/sockets (one blade larger than the other) to reduce electric shock risk — they fit only one way; if they don't fit, consult an electrician.

    Installation

The Keypad Controllers are designed for indoor use. The KPCD6 simply plugs into any 120V outlet. To install the KPCW6 in a wall box:

    1. Disconnect power to the wall box first (remove the fuse or turn off the circuit breaker) — installing with power on may expose you to dangerous voltage and damage the product.
    2. Remove any existing wall plate and device from the wall box.
    3. Use wire nuts to connect the KPCW6's white wire to the "Neutral" wire and its black wire to the "Line" wire.
    4. Fit the KPCW6 into the wall box, secure with mounting screws, and install the wall plate.
    5. Restore power at the circuit breaker.

    Configuration

Once installed, the KPCx6 can be configured manually or with PulseWorx's UPStart Setup Software (used with the Powerline Interface Module, PIM). Manual configuration lets you add the device to a UPB network and link it to load control devices without UPStart — see the Keypad Controller's Manual Configuration Guide at www.PulseWorx.com. While factory defaults work well in many situations, configuring with UPStart is highly recommended to access the device's full range of configurable features.

    SETUP Mode

To enter SETUP mode, simultaneously press and hold the ON and OFF buttons for 3 seconds — all LED indicators blink once in SETUP mode. To exit, repeat the same button-hold, or wait 5 minutes for it to time out automatically.

Changing a Scene's Preset Light Levels

    1. Press the pushbutton on the 6-Button Controller to activate the currently stored Preset Light Level (scene) on the Wall Switch Dimmer(s).
    2. Use the local rocker switch on the Wall Switch to set the new desired Preset Light Level.
    3. Rapidly tap the pushbutton on the 6-Button Controller five times.
    4. The WS1D's lighting load flashes once to confirm the new Preset Light Level has been stored.

    Operation

Once installed and configured, the KPCx6 operates per its stored configuration. Single-tap, double-tap, hold, or release the pushbuttons to transmit preset commands onto the powerline. See the 6-Button Specification Document (available at www.PulseWorx.com) for full details on keypad operation.

    Backlit Pushbuttons

Each of the six pushbuttons has a blue LED behind it for backlighting and to indicate when loads/scenes are activated. By default, back-lighting is enabled, and pressing a pushbutton makes it illuminate brighter than the others.

    Infra-Red (IR) Receiver

The KPCx6 can receive IR messages from an optional Infra-Red Remote (model IRR, sold separately) to activate pushbutton presses remotely.

    Keypad Lockout Feature

Temporarily locks the keypad pushbuttons (useful for parties or to guard against young children). To activate: simultaneously press and hold the A, B, C, and D buttons for 3 seconds — all LED indicators extinguish and further presses have no effect. To disable: repeat the same button-hold; the KPCx6 resets and resumes responding to presses.

    Restoring Factory Default Settings

Put the KPCx6 into SETUP mode, then simultaneously press and hold the A and D buttons for about 3 seconds. The ON and OFF indicators light up to confirm factory defaults have been restored.
