  • Resideo Braukmann L5 WiFi Water Leak Shutoff Valve — Installation Instructions

    August 31, 2026 4 min read

Full installation instructions for the Resideo Braukmann L5 WiFi Water Leak Shutoff Valve — auto-shutoff valve that pairs with Resideo WiFi Leak Detectors to protect your home from water damage.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Full text-only reference for Resideo's Braukmann L5 WiFi Water Leak Shutoff Valve installation instructions. This valve pairs with Resideo WiFi Leak Detectors to automatically shut off your home's water supply the moment a leak is detected, reducing potential water damage.

    What's in the Box

    • L5 Actuator — connects to WiFi and controls valve status
    • Water Ball Valve — lead-free ball valve, can be installed in any orientation
    • Power Supply — 10 ft power adapter
    • Metal Clip — connects the actuator to the water ball valve
    • Leak Detection Cable — 5 ft add-on rope sensor, can be daisy-chained with additional rope sensors to extend the detection area

    Overview

    • Auto Shutoff: When paired with Resideo WiFi Leak Detector(s), the L5 can automatically shut off the water line as soon as a leak is detected. One L5 valve can be paired with up to 30 Resideo WiFi Leak Detectors.
    • Remote App Control: Open/close the valve from anywhere via the Resideo app.
    • Manual Override: The emergency handle on the L5 Actuator can open/close the valve — intended for emergencies only (e.g. power outage). A short press of the power button performs normal manual open/close.

    Mobile App Setup

    1. Download the Resideo app (App Store or Google Play), register, and tap "+" on the home screen.
    2. Follow app guidance to choose a location and name your L5 valve.
    3. Power up the L5 device and connect it to WiFi via the app (ensure local network is enabled on iOS).
    4. Configure the L5 valve: set up water leak protection via wireless leak detectors, and set up a maintenance cycle.

    Installation

    1. Locate and turn off the water main valve.
    2. Drain remaining water in the pipe by opening several faucets.
    3. Install the L5 Water Valve on the main water line, downstream of the main shutoff valve and pressure-reducing valve (if applicable). Make sure the ball valve is in the open position before installation to ensure alignment with the actuator.
    4. Install the actuator on the ball valve and connect both with the supplied clip. Make sure the L5 Actuator is also in the open position before installation. To manually adjust: push the handle down and turn it 90 degrees to reach open/closed position.
    5. Carefully turn the water main valve back on and check for leaks at the installation.
    6. Turn off faucets and re-check for leaks.
    7. Connect the power adapter for the actuator. Wait for it to connect online — power LED should be green and WiFi LED blue.
    8. Installation complete.

    Emergency Ball Valve Close/Open

The handle on the L5 actuator is for emergencies only (e.g. power outage). Using it does NOT sync valve status with the app.

    1. Unplug the L5 from the power supply.
    2. Push the lever until it touches the actuator's top cover (minimal resistance) — this detaches the handle from the gearbox.
    3. While pushing down, turn the lever clockwise to close the ball valve (some resistance expected).
    4. To open, push down while turning counterclockwise.

    Maintenance Cycle

Found under "Settings" in the app. Automatically closes then immediately reopens the L5 valve on a schedule to prevent the valve from sticking. Recommended at least every 2 months.

    • The maintenance cycle will NOT run while the valve is in the closed position (to prevent unintended water supply).
    • If leaving the valve permanently closed, manually open then close it at least every 2 months.

Synchronizing Valve Position with App Status

    1. Unplug the actuator from power.
    2. Plug it back in — the L5 will operate to its last known position. Wait until the status LED is solid red or solid green.
    3. The app should now reflect the actual valve status.

    • When water is shut off by L5, it may cause damage to appliances connected to the water main due to lack of water.
    • Backflow preventers required if used to control outside water supply lines.
    • Must be installed downstream of pressure tank.
    • Must NOT be installed on systems with an external hot water source.
    • Must NOT be installed on fire sprinkler or suppression systems — may prevent them from functioning in an emergency.
