    Z-Wave Installation

    The TZ45 supports the Z-Wave Thermostat General V2 device class, compatible with most Z-Wave controllers. To add it to a network:

    1. Set your primary controller to Include mode.
    2. In the thermostat's Main Menu, scroll to "ZWave Install" and select it.
    3. Press YES in the ZWave Install screen.

    Verify success by checking the ZHID (Home ID) and ZNID (Node ID) in the Thermostat Info screen — an un-configured thermostat shows zeros for both. Setback Mode: controllers without full thermostat device class support can still trigger the energy-saving AWAY mode via BASIC_SET commands (0x00 = AWAY mode using predefined setback setpoints; 0xFF = revert to prior mode).

    Thermostat Control Screen

    The main screen displays current room temperature, heating/cooling setpoints, system mode, fan mode, time, and status. A "Minimized Display Mode" can be enabled in User Settings to show only the temperature after a configurable timeout (0 = disabled).

    Status LEDs

    • L1 (Green) — System operation: SYS OFF, SYS MOT (min-off-time delay), HEAT ON, COOL ON, HEAT MRT, COOL MRT.
    • L2 (Green) — Stage mode: no display = stage 1; "2nd Stg" = stage 2 active; "Aux Heat" = stage 3 active.
    • L3 (Green) — Schedule mode: Run (schedule active), Hold (setpoint hold), Away (setback active).
    • L4 (Red) — Alert LED for system alerts (Filter, Maint).

    Setting Setpoints

    Press Up or Down on the main screen to open the current mode's setpoint screen and adjust in 1-degree increments (press and hold for continuous change). Setpoint range: 50°F-90°F (4°C-32°C) heating, 55°F-99°F (10°C-37°C) cooling. The thermostat maintains a minimum 3-degree separation between heating and cooling setpoints, automatically "pushing" the other setpoint if you try to violate that separation. If System Mode is OFF, pressing Up/Down takes you to the System Mode screen first.

    HVAC System Wiring

    Standard Gas/Electric HVAC Systems

    Set Mechanical Type to Gas/Elec (default). Set Fan Type to GAS for gas systems (no fan output required for heat) or ELEC for electric/hydronic systems (fan output required with heat call). Single-stage systems use W1 (heat) and Y1 (cool); two-stage heating adds W2, two-stage cooling adds Y2 (both must be enabled in Installer Settings). For a single, shared transformer, do not cut jumper JP1 — wire the HVAC's 24VAC common (blue) to 24Com and 24VAC return (red) to either 24RH or 24RC. For separate heating/cooling transformers, cut JP1: wire heating 24V R to 24RH and cooling 24V R to 24RC, with cooling 24VAC common to 24COM.

    Heat Pump HVAC Systems

    Set Mechanical Type to Heat Pump (Fan Type is then set automatically). Single-stage compressor systems use Y1 for stage-1 heat/cool and W1 for aux heat (heat strips); two-stage systems add Y2, with W1 as stage-3 aux heat. Configure the Changeover Valve type to match your system: O (orange wire) = changeover with cooling (default, most common), B (brown wire) = changeover with heating — if you get cooling when expecting heat, flip this setting. Heat pumps use a single transformer — do not cut the RC/RH jumper.

    Remote Sensors

    Compatible with RTS3 and RTS4 two-wire remote sensors via shielded twisted-pair cable (connect shield to 24VAC Com).

    Minimum Run Time / Minimum Off Time

    MRT keeps the system running after a heat/cool call starts, even if the setpoint is satisfied early, to ensure even cycles (changing mode to OFF cancels MRT immediately). MOT enforces a delay (minimum 5 minutes) between cycles to protect compressors from short-cycling. Both are adjustable in Installer Settings, and their active status shows on the System Status LED label.
