Qolsys IQ WiFi Mesh Router — Quick Install Guide

Quick install guide for the Qolsys IQ WiFi mesh router system (SKU QW8200-840) — a mesh-capable Wi-Fi router designed to work alongside Qolsys IQ security panels, configurable via web interface or directly from the IQ Panel.

Installation Steps

Step 1 — Connect the IQ WiFi

1. Plug the barrel jack end of the power supply into the "DC-IN" port.
2. Connect the provided Ethernet cable into the "WAN" port.

Step 2 — Connect to the Modem or Existing Network

Connect the opposite end of the Ethernet cable into the "ETHERNET" port on the modem. For parallel installs, plug the cable into an available port on the customer's existing router instead (see Additional Considerations below).

Step 3 — Power Up the IQ WiFi

Plug the power supply into the wall outlet. Note: the IQ WiFi may take up to 5 minutes to fully power up before proceeding to the next step.

Step 4 — Add All Agents (for mesh setups)

1. Power up an additional IQ WiFi unit (as in Step 3).
2. From the Controller unit, briefly touch the WPS button to activate pairing mode.
3. From the Agent unit, briefly touch the WPS button to pair.
4. Allow 3-4 minutes for the Agent to pair and auto-update.

LED behavior: a slowly flashing LED indicates pairing/WPS mode is active. A red flash following this indicates pairing was unsuccessful.

Step 5 — Pair Controller to IQ Panel

1. On the IQ Panel, open the settings tray, go to Settings > Advanced Settings, enter a valid dealer or install code, then go to WiFi.
2. Look for the broadcasting SSID/network name — it will be named "IQ WiFi" plus the last 6 characters of the MAC address — and select it.
3. Enter the password printed on the sticker on the bottom of the router (the Serial Number is the default password).
4. Touch Connect.

Step 6 — Rename Your Network (SSID)

1. From the IQ Panel settings tray, go to Settings > Advanced Settings, enter a valid code, then go to Installation > Devices > WiFi devices > IQ WiFi icon.
2. Touch the down arrows to edit the Network Name (SSID).

Step 7 — Create a Unique SSID and Password

1. Enter a unique network name.
2. Enter a unique security key.
3. Touch Save.

Additional Considerations

The IQ WiFi can be set up two ways:

• As the only wireless network on the premises: best for improving connectivity for ALL Wi-Fi devices on the network and offering support for the entire network.
• In parallel with an existing wireless network: best for keeping security/smart-home devices private and hidden from other network traffic, simplifying remote support (only known/authorized devices connect), and ensuring better connectivity for dealer-supported devices.

Troubleshooting — Factory Default Reset

Press and hold the physical reset button for about 15-20 seconds, or until the Power LED begins to flash. During reset, the Power LED will flash quickly, slow to a stop, reboot, then slowly pulse until it remains solid GREEN.

Adding Additional Agents

Up to 7 Agents can be added per Controller for a total of 8 IQ WiFi units in a mesh. Ethernet backhaul is supported and will be used by default so long as an Ethernet cable is properly connected between units; otherwise the mesh falls back to wireless backhaul.
