    Manual Configuration Guide for the PulseWorx KPC-8 Controller (8-Button Controller) β€” step-by-step procedures for setting up a UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) system entirely by hand, without UPStart software.

    Overview

    The KPC-8 is an 8-Button Controller used in PulseWorx UPB lighting systems. While UPStart PC software can configure a Network ID, Control Zone, and Links automatically, this guide documents the fully manual procedures using only the KPC-8's own pushbuttons.

    Selecting a New Network ID

    The Network ID is a unique code shared by all devices in a UPB system so they communicate only with each other and don't interfere with a neighboring UPB system that might share the same ID.

    1 Press and hold the 'E' and 'L' pushbuttons to enter Setup Mode β€” all pushbuttons blink
    2 Press and hold 'G' and 'H' to start learning a new Network ID β€” 'G'/'H' keep blinking, others turn off
    3 Wait for the controller to finish learning β€” all pushbuttons turn off

    Teaching a Network ID to Other Devices

    1 Press and hold 'E' and 'L' to enter Setup Mode
    2 Put all other devices to be taught into their own Setup Mode (see each device's own documentation)
    3 Press and hold 'I' and 'J' until they blink, to teach the new Network ID
    4 Wait for teaching to finish β€” all devices exit Setup Mode

    Setting a Pushbutton Controller's Control Zone

    Every 8-Button Controller ships from the factory controlling "Zone E" (8 Links). If you have multiple controllers, assign each one a different zone so they don't overlap.

    E 1–8
    F 9–16
    G 17–24
    H 25–32
    I 33–40
    J 41–48
    K 49–56
    L 57–64

    Procedure: 1) Press and hold 'E' and 'L' to enter Setup Mode. 2) Triple-tap the pushbutton corresponding to the desired zone β€” all pushbuttons turn off when the new zone is set.

    Adjusting Scene Lighting Levels

    1. Single-tap the desired pushbutton to activate its scene β€” linked devices go to their configured levels
    2. Adjust light levels/states on all devices you want activated by this pushbutton
    3. Tap the pushbutton 5 times quickly β€” it blinks and stores the current levels as the new scene

    Linking Other Devices to a Pushbutton

    1. Single-tap the desired pushbutton once
    2. Put the other devices you want controlled into Setup Mode (per their own documentation)
    3. Optional: adjust light levels/states on those devices to set the scene
    4. Tap the pushbutton 5 times quickly β€” the devices learn their current levels and exit Setup Mode

    This procedure can be repeated for any pushbutton on the 8-Button Controller.

    Unlinking Devices from a Pushbutton

    1. Single-tap the desired pushbutton once
    2. Put the device you no longer want controlled into Setup Mode
    3. Tap the pushbutton 10 times quickly β€” the device is unlinked and exits Setup Mode
