Installation guide and owner's manual for the PulseWorx FMR1 Fixture Module - Relay (P/N PCFMR120) — a UPB wire-in load controller for lighting and appliances.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation guide and owner's manual for the PulseWorx FMR1 Fixture Module - Relay, a wire-in home automation load controller for UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) lighting systems.

    Function

The FMR1 Fixture Module - Relay is a high-quality wire-in home automation load controller capable of turning 120VAC appliances and fluorescent lamps ON and OFF based on digital commands received over the power wiring from a remote UPB controller. UPB controllers and modules can be freely located anywhere in the home — no additional wiring is required, and no radio frequency signals are used for communication.

    Safety Instructions

    • Read and follow all safety instructions.
    • Keep away from water — if the product contacts water or other liquid, turn off the circuit breaker and unplug immediately.
    • Never use products that have been dropped or damaged.
    • Do not use this product outdoors, or for any purpose other than its intended use.
    • Do not connect multiple lamps/appliances that, combined, exceed the product's maximum load rating (20 amps).
    • Install out of reach of small children to avoid risk of fire, burns, injury, or electric shock.
    • Do not cover the product with any material while in use.
    • Do not insert metal objects into the module while it is connected to power.

    Installation Steps

    1. Locate the device to be controlled. Device power rating must not exceed 20 amps.
    2. Disconnect power at the circuit breaker.
    3. Remove any existing ceiling or wall fixture hardware for the device. Disconnect the black wire supplying power to the device.
    4. Using a wire nut, connect the black (Line) wire of the fixture module to the black (Line) power wire.
    5. Using a wire nut, connect the red (load output) wire of the fixture module to the black wire from the lighting fixture or device being controlled.
    6. Using a large wire nut, connect the white (Neutral) wire of the fixture module to the white (Neutral) power wire and the white wire from the lighting fixture.
    7. Before final placement, refer to the Configuration and Operation sections — you may need access to the Program Switch to add the module to the UPB network and test operation. Temporarily restore power to perform these functions, then disconnect power again when finished.
    8. Once proper operation is confirmed, fit the module into the outlet box (or secure with wire ties, or fit the nipple into a ½" knockout). Reinstall fixture hardware as needed.

    Configuration

Once installed, the FMR1 can be configured manually or with PCS's free UPStart Setup Software (available at www.PulseWorx.com). Manual configuration adds the FMR1 to a UPB network and links it to controller buttons — see the Keypad Controller's Manual Configuration Guide on the PulseWorx website for details. UPStart Setup Software (used with PCS's Powerline Interface Module, PIM) unlocks the FMR1's full range of configurable features.

    SETUP Mode

To configure a UPB system, place the FMR1 in SETUP mode: press the Program Button five times rapidly using a non-metallic toothpick. The Status LED blinks continuously blue while in SETUP mode. Exit by pressing the Program Button once, or wait five minutes for it to time out.

    TEST Mode

A manual test feature lets you turn the device ON/OFF locally. Press and hold the Program Button for at least 3 seconds to enable TEST mode (Status LED blinks magenta). Single-tap the Program Button to toggle the fixture ON/OFF. Press and hold the Program Button again for at least 3 seconds to exit TEST mode.

    Restoring Factory Defaults

Put the FMR1 into SETUP mode, then press the Program Button ten times rapidly. The Status LED blinks red to confirm defaults have been restored. Press the Program Button twice more to stop the blinking.

    Setting Default Value
    Network ID 255
    Unit ID 61
    Network Password 1234
    Receive Components Link #1 = ON, Link #2 = OFF, Link #8 = Blink @ 0.5 sec

    Operation

The FMR1 operates according to commands sent by one or more UPB controllers — compatible with PulseWorx Keypad Controllers, Timed Event Controllers, Wall Switches, Interface Modules, approved third-party controllers, and touch screens. The FMR1 can be a member of up to 16 scenes, each storing a pre-set relay state (on, off, or blink).

    Auto-Off Timer

Generation 2 units support setting a maximum on-time — if you forget to turn the fixture off yourself, the module will do it automatically. The FMR1 can also inform the rest of the network when it has auto-turned the appliance off, allowing it to remotely control other devices or update feedback indicators (e.g. LEDs).

    Typical Uses

The FMR1 is ideal for controlling 120VAC non-dimming loads such as:

    • Fans
    • Pumps
    • Low voltage transformers
    • Coffee makers
    • Christmas lights

    Warranty

PCS warrants this product, when used per all applicable instructions, to be free from original defects in materials and workmanship for five years from date of purchase. See the PulseWorx website for full warranty details.
