PCS SimpleWorx Digital Astronomical Timer (PCSWXDAT4) — Quick Start Guide

Quick start guide for the PCS SimpleWorx Digital Astronomical Timer (Model DAT) — a powerline-linked timer that turns lights and other loads on/off by time of day, dusk/dawn (with offsets calculated for your location), with no new wiring required.

Function

SimpleWorx products provide simple remote control for lighting and other electrical loads without running any new wiring — they connect or "link" to one another by communicating over existing electrical power wires. One transmitter can link to as many receivers as necessary; each receiver can link to up to eight transmitters.

The DAT features four timers, each of which can be set for:

• A specific time of day
• Dusk, with an offset (before or after dusk)
• Dawn, with an offset (before or after dawn)

Dusk/dawn calculations are made each day for your location, based on the latitude/longitude entered during setup (find your coordinates at itouchmap.com/latlong.html).

Important Safety Instructions

• Do not use this product for other than its intended purpose.
• Keep away from water — if it contacts water or other liquid, turn off the circuit breaker and remove the product immediately.
• Never use products that have been dropped or damaged.
• Do not use this product outdoors.
• Do not cover this product with any material.

Basic Operation

The DAT has a display and three buttons: "OFF / -", "ON / +", "SET", plus a Link button.

• Press OFF / - to turn Linked Modules OFF.
• Press ON / + to turn Linked Modules ON.
• SET is used to enter programming and set values — press and hold for 3 seconds to begin programming.
• The Link button (on the side of the unit) links the DAT to SimpleWorx Receivers — press and hold for 6 seconds to enter Link Mode (LED blinks RED).

Setup / Programming

Tip: Programming is easier if the DAT is plugged into an extension cord so it can be held for easier viewing. The DAT has a battery backup, so settings are retained when disconnected from power.

To enter Programming Mode, press and hold SET for up to 3 seconds until "Set Hour" appears, then step through:

1. Set Hour — 24-hour military format (not AM/PM)
2. Set Minute
3. Set Day (current day of week)
4. Set Month
5. Set Date
6. Set Year
7. Set Time Zone
8. Observe DST? — Yes/No
9. Set Longitude (e.g., 118 for Los Angeles area)
10. Set Latitude (e.g., 34 for Los Angeles area)

A major-city lookup table with longitude/latitude coordinates is included at the back of the manual — find the location closest to you and enter its coordinates. Example: a contractor in Northridge, CA can use coordinates 118/34, which work well anywhere within a 150-mile radius of Los Angeles.

Setting the ON Time

• By real time: Turn ON AT: TIME → Set ON Hour → Set ON Minute.
• By sunrise/sunset: Turn ON AT: SUNSET (or SUNRISE) → Set ON Offset in minutes (offset range: ±127 minutes).

Setting the OFF Time

• By real time: Turn OFF AT: TIME → Set OFF Hour → Set OFF Minute.
• By sunrise/sunset: Turn OFF AT: SUNRISE (or SUNSET) → Set OFF Offset in minutes (offset range: ±127 minutes).

Additional ON/OFF Times

If you need a second set of ON/OFF times during a 24-hour period, select "Use Additional ON/OFF? YES" and program the second set the same way as the first. Selecting "NO" displays today's sunrise and sunset — press SET to confirm each, and programming is complete. The main screen then displays the day, date, time, and last command sent.

Wiring Diagram

The DAT connects between the power line (Line/Neutral/Ground) and a PMR-AC receiver module, which in turn controls a landscape lighting transformer or other load.

Linking a Transmitter to a Receiver

1. At the SimpleWorx Transmitter, press and hold the Link button for 6 seconds. The LED flashes GREEN and flashes its load (if connected).
2. At the SimpleWorx Receiver, press and hold the rocker switch or link button for 6 seconds. The LED flashes GREEN and flashes its load (if connected).
3. Within 30 seconds, the Receiver indicates the two devices have automatically "linked" when the LED stops flashing and then flashes its load once.
4. To take the Transmitter out of Link mode, tap its rocker switch or link button once — the LED stops flashing and flashes its load (if connected). Note: The transmitter automatically times out after 5 minutes.
