Installation and configuration guide for the PCS PulseWorx OCM Output Control Module, a plug-in UPB load controller with two 8-amp relays.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation and configuration guide for the PCS PulseWorx OCM (Output Control Module) — a high-quality plug-in home automation load controller with two 8-amp relays, controlled via digital commands sent over powerline wiring from a remote UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) controller. No additional wiring or RF signals are required.

    Function

The OCM receives UPB powerline commands from any UPB-compatible transmitter — PulseWorx Keypad Controllers, Timed Event Controllers, Wall Switches, Interface Modules, approved third-party controllers, and touch screens. Each of the OCM's two channels can be a member of up to 16 scenes, with a pre-set relay state (OPEN or CLOSED) stored per scene.

    Important Safety Instructions

    • Read and follow all safety instructions.
    • Keep away from water. If the product contacts water or other liquid, turn off the circuit breaker and unplug immediately.
    • Never use products that have been dropped or damaged.
    • Do not use this product outdoors.
    • Do not use for anything other than its intended purpose.
    • Do not connect multiple loads that, combined, exceed the maximum load ratings of the product.
    • Install out of the reach of small children to avoid fire, burns, personal injury, or electric shock.
    • Do not cover this product with any material when in use.
    • This product uses grounded plugs and sockets to reduce shock risk. If they do not fit an outlet, consult an electrician — do not force the connection.

    Installation

    1. Locate any free grounded wall outlet in the home. Plug the OCM into the outlet.
    2. Optionally, secure the OCM to the wall outlet by screwing the wall plate center screw through the OCM's mounting tab.
    3. Remove the supplied terminal block from the OCM's terminal connector.
    4. Connect two wires from the first control circuit to the terminal block, terminating to blocks 1 and 2 using the clamping screws provided.
    5. Connect two wires from the second control circuit to the terminal block, terminating to blocks 3 and 4.
    6. Plug the terminal block back into the terminal connector.

    Configuration

Once installed, the OCM can be configured either manually or with the UPStart Setup Software (free, available at www.PulseWorx.com). Manual configuration lets you add the OCM into a UPB network, link it to controller buttons, and set preset relay states. The factory default operation is usable out of the box, but configuring with UPStart unlocks the module's full feature set.

    SETUP Mode

To configure a UPB system, place the OCM in SETUP mode by pressing the Program Button five times rapidly — the Status LED blinks continuously Blue while in SETUP mode. Exit SETUP mode by pressing the Program Button twice, or wait five minutes for it to time out automatically.

    TEST Mode

A manual test feature allows the relays to be closed and opened locally. Press and hold the Program Button for at least 3 seconds to enable TEST mode — the Status LED blinks Magenta. In TEST mode:

    • Single-tap the Program Button to close/open Relay #1 (Device #1).
    • Double-tap the Program Button to close/open Relay #2 (Device #2).
    • Press and hold the Program Button again for 3+ seconds to exit TEST mode.

    Factory Default Settings

To restore factory defaults, place the OCM into SETUP mode, then press the Program Button ten times rapidly. The Status LED blinks red to confirm the reset; press the Program Button twice more to stop the blinking.

    Setting Default
    Network ID 255
    Unit ID 06
    Network Password 1234
    Receive Components (Channel #1) Link #1 = 100% (CLOSED), Link #2 = 0% (OPENED), Link #8 = Blink @ 0.5 sec
    Receive Components (Channel #2) Link #1 = 100% (CLOSED), Link #2 = 0% (OPENED), Link #8 = Blink @ 0.5 sec

    AUTO-OFF Timers

New for Generation 2, the OCM supports a maximum on-time setting — if you forget to shut the load off, the module will do it automatically. It can also be configured to notify the rest of the network when it automatically turns a load off, allowing it to remotely control other devices or update feedback indicators such as LEDs.

    Typical Uses

    • Valves
    • Gates
    • Garage doors
    • Gas fireplaces
    • Pumps
    • A large high-voltage contactor
    • Anything controlled by a relay

The OCM's internal switch relay is a path interrupter for devices not powered above 24VDC (5A) or 30VAC (3.3A).
