Installation Guide and Owner's Manual for the PCS PulseWorx KPLC7 UPB Keypad Load Controller with Load Relay — a keypad that controls 0-10V dimmable LED fixtures and other UPB devices over existing power wiring.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation Guide and Owner's Manual for the PCS (PulseWorx) KPLC7 Keypad Load Controller — a UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) keypad that controls 0-10V dimmable LED fixtures over existing power wiring.

    Function

The KPLC7 PRC Load Controller, together with the RM-0-10V receiving module, allows changing the illumination level of a 0-10V controlled LED fixture. It can also transmit and receive UPB® digital commands over existing power wiring to remotely turn on, off, and dim other UPB load control devices. No additional wiring is required, and no radio frequency signals are used for communication.

In the default configuration, the buttons only control the LED fixture attached to the RM-0-10V receiving module (they do not transmit UPB commands). Buttons can be reconfigured to transmit using the UPB configuration program UPStart.

    Models & Buttons

The KPLC7 mounts in any wall box containing neutral, line, load, and ground wires. Available colors: White, Black, and Light Almond.

Engraved buttons include: Scene 1, Scene 2, Scene 3, Scene 4, Off, and Up Arrow / Down Arrow — all white backlit. Custom Engraved Buttons (model CEB) are available to tailor each button for a particular use; consult your dealer or www.pcslighting.com for CEB ordering information.

    Important Safety Instructions

    • Read and follow all safety instructions.
    • Keep away from water. If the product contacts water or other liquid, turn off the circuit breaker and unplug the product immediately.
    • Never use products that have been dropped or damaged.
    • Do not use this product outdoors.
    • Do not use this product for other than its intended purpose. Do not cover the product with any material when in use.
    • Save these instructions.

    Installation

    1. Before installing the KPLC7 into a wall box, ensure power to the wall box has been disconnected (remove the fuse or turn off the circuit breaker). Installing while power is on may expose you to dangerous voltage and may damage the product.
    2. Remove any existing wall plate and device from the wall box.
    3. Use wire nuts to securely connect the KPLC7's white wire to the "Neutral" wire, the black wire to the "Line" wire, and the red wire to the "Load" wire.
    4. Fit the KPLC7 into the wall box, secure with mounting screws, and install the wall plate.
    5. Install the RM-0-10V receiving module per its wiring diagram.
    6. Restore power at the circuit breaker.

    Configuration

Once installed, the KPLC7 can be configured either manually or with UPStart Configuration Software. The Keypad Controller's Manual Configuration Guide is available on the PCS website for details on adding your KPL device into a UPB network and linking it to other load control devices.

Although the factory default operation of the KPLC7 is useful in many situations, it's recommended to program it with a Powerline Interface Module (PIM) and UPStart Configuration Software to take advantage of its many configurable features. User guides are available on the PCS website.

    Setup Mode

To place the KPLC7 into Setup Mode: simultaneously press and hold the right side of the top button (Scene 1) and the left side of the bottom button (Down Arrow) for 3 seconds. All LED indicators blink once the device is in Setup Mode. To exit, repeat the same button combination for 3 seconds, or wait five minutes for the mode to time out.

    Controlling Additional PulseWorx Devices

Besides controlling the LED fixture attached to its RM-0-10V receiving module, the KPLC7 can be configured to work with other PulseWorx® Lighting System devices. This requires the UPB Configuration Software UPStart to enable the keypad pushbuttons to transmit.

    Operation

Once installed and configured, the KPLC7 operates with the stored configuration settings. Single-tap, double-tap, hold, or release the pushbuttons to control the LED fixture. Default button actions (unless changed with UPStart):

    Button 1 Action 100%
    Button 2 Action 50%
    Button 3 Action 15%
    Button 4 Action 5%
    Button 5 Action OFF (0%)
UP Button Mode Increase light level
DN Button Mode Decrease light level

The final split button — right half decreases light level, left half increases light level — works by holding the button down to start the level change and releasing when the desired level is achieved.

    Backlit Pushbuttons

Each pushbutton has an LED behind it for backlighting and to indicate when loads or scenes are activated. By default, back-lighting is enabled; pressing a pushbutton causes it to illuminate brighter than the others.

    Factory Default Settings

To restore factory defaults: put the KPLC7 into Setup mode by simultaneously pressing and holding the top right of the top button and the right of the bottom button for about 3 seconds. While in Setup mode, press and hold the second button (Scene 2) and the fifth button (Scene 5) for about 3 seconds. The indicators will light up to confirm factory defaults have been restored.
