  • OPTEX QX Infinity Series (QXI-ST/QXI-DT) — Wide Angle Outdoor Detector Installation Guide

    September 08, 2026 3 min read

Installation instructions for the OPTEX QX Infinity Series Wide Angle Outdoor Detector (Wired Model) — covering QXI-ST, QXI-DT-X5, QXI-DT-X8, and QXI-DT-X9.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation instructions for the OPTEX QX Infinity Series Wide Angle Outdoor Detector — Wired Model. Covers models QXI-ST (standard PIR), QXI-DT-X5, QXI-DT-X8, and QXI-DT-X9 (PIR + microwave detection).

    Overview

    • QXI-ST: Standard wired model — Passive infrared (PIR) only.
    • QXI-DT-X5: Adds microwave detection at 10.525 GHz.
    • QXI-DT-X8: Adds microwave detection at 10.587 GHz.
    • QXI-DT-X9: Adds microwave detection at 9.425 GHz.

    Mounting

    • Multi Level mode: Mount at 2.2 m (7'3") to 2.7 m (8'11") height.
    • Pet Alley mode: Mount at 0.8 m (2'7") to 1.2 m (4') height. Removes lower-area detection to avoid small animals. Note: Anti-blocking function cannot be used with the Pet Alley setting.
    • Wall mount (outdoor or indoor). Optional accessory brackets available for wall mount (CA-1W) or ceiling mount (CA-2C).

    Wiring

    Terminal block layout (QXI-ST): Power (+/-), Spare (SP/SP), Alarm (COM/AL), Tamper (TP/TP).

    Terminal block layout (QXI-DT): Power (+/-), Spare/Trouble (SP/TR), Alarm (COM/AL), Tamper (TP/TP).

Wiring is routed either through a wiring knockout or via surface wiring using 2 cables.

    DIP Switch Settings

    Switch Function ON OFF
    1 LED ON OFF (default)
    2 Alarm output N.O. N.C. (default)
3 PIR sensitivity High/Low (see switches 3+4 combination)
    6 Anti-blocking (QXI-DT only) ON OFF (default)
7 Anti-blocking sensitivity (QXI-DT only) High Low (default)
    8 Future use

Note: Objects moving nearby the detector may affect correct operation of the anti-blocking feature.

    Walk Test

    1. Close the cover.
    2. Perform the walk test (runs for 3 minutes).
    3. Walk test ends automatically — LED flashes 5 times.

Note: With the cover open, the tamper activates and the LED function is enabled regardless of DIP switch 1. When the cover is closed, the walk test timer starts and returns to normal mode after 3 minutes. If powered up with the cover already closed, walk test mode will not activate — open and close the cover once to start it.

    LED Indicator Reference

    State Duration
    Warm-up ~60 seconds
    Alarm 2 seconds
    Walk test end 5 seconds
    Blocking detection x3 flashes

    Compliance & Safety Notes

    • QXI-DT-X5, QXI-DT-X8, and QXI-DT-X9 comply with RE Directive 2014/53/EU.
    • These units are designed to detect an intruder and activate an alarm control panel. As only a part of a complete security system, the manufacturer cannot accept responsibility for damages or consequences resulting from an intrusion.
    • Microwave emission is region-restricted — 10.525 GHz models are limited to specific EU countries (Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland); 10.587 GHz to others (Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, UK); 9.425 GHz to Austria, Czechia, Estonia, Germany, Slovakia, Turkey, Russia.
    • DT models should be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20 cm between the radiator and the body per RF exposure limits.
