Installation instructions for the On-Q/Legrand DA1101 Wireless Access Point - N — a residential WiFi access point supporting both legacy 802.11 B/G and the newer "N" standard.

Overview

The Legrand DA1101 Wireless Access Point - N is Legrand's residential WiFi offering supporting the older 802.11 B/G standards as well as the newer "N" standard. It ships with mounting hardware for two installation methods:

• A triple-gang electrical box using the round cover
• A single-gang electrical box using the small rectangular cover

This makes the DA1101 suitable both as a replacement/upgrade for existing Legrand 802.11 B/G WAPs and for new construction, in a much smaller form factor. This installation sheet covers only physical installation requirements — for software configuration and operation, refer to the DA1101 Owner's Manual (P/N 1308137) supplied with the product.

What's Included

• Triple-gang installation bracket assembly with a round cover, for mounting the DA1101 in an existing triple-gang electrical box (typical for replacing an existing Legrand 802.11 B/G WAP).
• The triple-gang bracket can be easily modified (broken off) into a single-gang bracket assembly for use with the smaller rectangular cover, for new construction single-gang installations.
• DA1101 802.11 N Wireless Access Point unit, which snaps into the mounting bracket.
• POE module and single-bay bracket, housed in the structured wiring enclosure, providing both power for the DA1101 and the data interface to its associated router — both over a single Cat 5 connection.

Installation

Important: Read the documentation included with all associated Legrand products before installation. If unsure of any procedure, contact Legrand Technical Support at 1-800-321-2343 option 1, or contact a Legrand installer.

1. Run a Category 5 cable from the triple-gang or single-gang electrical box at the intended DA1101 room location to the POE module located in the structured wiring enclosure.
2. Make sure the Power Supply is not connected to the POE module at this time.
3. Pull the Category 5 cable out from the electrical box through the supplied triple-gang bracket (or the bracket modified into single-gang) and attach the bracket to the electrical box with the supplied screws.
4. Terminate the Cat 5 cable with an RJ45 plug and connect it to the RJ45 jack on the DA1101. Snap the DA1101 into the mounting bracket by inserting the two tabs on one end into the slots on the bracket, then tilting it flush until it snaps into place.
5. For a triple-gang installation: line the feet on the triple-gang bracket up with the indentions inside the round cover, and snap the cover in place. (There's a protrusion inside the cover that ensures correct orientation.) For a single-gang installation: hang the top of the rectangular cover on the single-gang bracket and tilt it to snap into place.
6. In the enclosure, terminate the other end of the Cat 5 cable from the DA1101 with an RJ45 plug and connect it to the POE output RJ45 jack. Run a Cat 5 jumper from the POE input jack to a local router port.
7. Plug the power supply into the POE module and into an AC outlet. Refer to the supplied Owner's Manual (P/N 1308137) for software configuration and operation.
