NuTone ElectraValve — Central Vacuum Installation & Wiring Manual

Overview

The NuTone ElectraValve® is a household central vacuum system valve designed to eliminate the constraint of fixed wire lengths. Unlike previous designs, the ElectraValve can be installed at any distance from the electrical box because the low-voltage control wiring is run separately from the vacuum inlet valve.

Rating: Maximum 110V, 2.0 amperage. All installations must comply with local electrical codes.

Safety Warnings

• Do not leave the appliance plugged in unattended. Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before servicing.
• Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
• Do not allow the unit to be used as a toy — close attention is necessary when used near children.
• Use only as described in this manual, with manufacturer-recommended attachments only.
• Do not handle the plug or appliance with wet hands.
• Do not insert objects into any openings; keep openings free of dust, lint, hair, and debris that could reduce airflow.
• Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all body parts away from openings and moving parts.
• Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids (e.g. gasoline), or use in areas where such liquids/vapors may be present.

New Home Installation & Wiring (Household Use)

These instructions are a reference guide only — always defer to local electrical codes.

1. Open the electrical plug by unlocking the two side tabs. The plug has three wiring channels; the ground wire sits in the middle channel.
2. Determine the wire type used in the home. Cut the length needed to reach the nearest electrical box. The wires do not need to be stripped — expose them per the figure in the manual and insert into the electrical plug, positioning white and black wires over their designated contacts (white wire contact, black wire contact). Once positioned, close the plug cover and press the wires into the contacts; lock the side tabs to secure.
3. Position the assembled wire plug through the top hole in the mounting plate and secure the plug to the mounting plate tab — this keeps it safe during drywalling and finishing.
4. Strip 6 inches of outer sheathing from the wire end going into the electrical box, and route it through a strain relief. Tighten the strain relief against the outer sheathing (do not over-tighten). Leave 1/2" of sheathing inside the outlet box; fold the 6" of black and white wire into the outlet box, to be connected by the electrician when the receptacle is installed.
5. Run the wire to the adjacent electrical box. If running through a stud, drill directly through the center of the stud.
6. Fasten the mounting plate to a stud. Locate the lower hole marked "Wire Trap" on the mounting plate and use a zip tie to secure the wire to the back of the mounting plate at the 10" mark from the plug (measure and mark the wire 10" from the plug beforehand).
7. Once drywall and finishing are complete, pull the plug off the tab and snap it into the opening on the back of the new ElectraValve. Ensure the plug is securely locked into position. Attach the low-voltage wires to the screw contacts.
   Attention: Power tools such as routers are not recommended for use during ElectraValve installation — removal of drywall with power tools may damage the mounting plate and/or plug.
8. Insert the valve into the mounting plate and secure with the screws provided. Report all electrical devices such as the ElectraValve to the construction electrician for listing on the building inspection report.

Warranty

One Year Limited Warranty. NuTone warrants products free from defects in materials or workmanship for one year from date of original purchase. During this period, NuTone will repair or replace (at its option) any defective product/part under normal use. Excludes consumables, normal maintenance, misuse, negligence, accident, improper repair, or faulty installation. Warranty is the purchaser's sole remedy; NuTone is not liable for incidental or consequential damages (some states do not allow this limitation).
