NuTone CT700 Deluxe Electric Power Brush — Owner's Manual

Homeowner's operating instructions for the NuTone/Broan-NuTone CT700 Deluxe Electric Power Brush (household type central vacuum power head) — assembly, use, cleaning, belt/brush roll replacement, and service parts.

Important Safety Instructions

WARNING — to reduce risk of fire, electric shock, or personal injury:

• Always turn power off and unplug before cleaning or servicing the power brush.
• Do not pick up sharp objects, flammable liquids, hot ashes, burning matches, cigarettes, etc.
• Never use, connect, or disconnect with wet hands.
• Do not use with a damaged power plug or plug pins — contact your local supplier/service agent.
• Do not put objects into the brush opening; do not use with the brush opening or air channel blocked.
• Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and body parts away from moving parts.
• Never leave the power brush unattended while plugged in. Not a toy — supervise children near it.
• Use only manufacturer-recommended attachments; do not use outdoors, on wet surfaces, or to pick up water.
• Use extra care on stairs; always check the underside for obstructions before use.
• Do not use without the dust bag or cyclonic filter in place.
• Motor shaft can become hot during use — avoid touching it when servicing the drive belt.
• Keep the work area well lit; store indoors in a clean, dry area.

1. Assembling Power Brush / Wand / Handle

1. Read the safety instructions before installing the power brush.
2. Ensure the hose is disconnected from the power supply before installing the power brush.
3. Push the wand into the power brush neck until the lock button snaps in place.
4. Connect the hose handle into the wand's quick connector, aligning the prongs with the receptacle holes; push until the lock button snaps in.

2. Using the Power Brush / Wand

Caution: Always pick up hard or sharp objects by hand before vacuuming — pins, hairpins, tacks, crayons, etc. can damage the brush roll or break the belt.

2.1 Wand Release

Not recommended for bare floors. The wand release pedal (A) lets you quickly disconnect the wand to switch to a combination floor/rug tool.

2.2 Power Brush Neck Release

Caution: Always unlock the brush neck before use. Push down the neck release pedal (B) to unlock; return the neck upright for storage.

2.3 Height Adjustment

Select carpet pile height by depressing the height adjustment pedal (C): Extra-Low, Low, Medium, or High. LED indicators show which pile heights are covered by the selected setting — High lights all LEDs (covers all heights); Extra-Low lights only the lowest LED.

2.4 Wand Length Adjustment

Hold the wand grip (G) with one hand and slide the upper section (with the prongs) with the other to extend or shorten the wand for a comfortable working position.

2.5 Edge Cleaner

The brush extends full width for effective edge cleaning along both sides of the nozzle — run the cleaner along an edge board. The rubber bumper protects furniture and baseboards.

2.6 Electronic Circuit Breaker

Protects the motor and belt if too large an object is picked up accidentally. If the power brush stops while vacuuming: turn off the power unit, release the brush from the wand, check for and clear any obstruction, press the reset button (H), reconnect the brush to the wand, then turn the power back on. If it fails to restart or trips repeatedly without apparent reason, service is required at an authorized center.

3. Cleaning & Storage

WARNING: Disconnect electrical supply before servicing or cleaning — failure to do so can cause electric shock or injury from the cleaner suddenly starting.

3.1 Cleaning Brush Roll

Clean the brush roll every time the belt is changed, plus on a schedule based on use:

Check and remove hair, string, and lint buildup frequently in the brush roll and end cap areas; remove debris in the belt path.

3.2 Cleaning Housing

Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap solution, then dry thoroughly. Never use chemicals — they can damage the housing.

3.3 Storage

1. Ensure the hose and power cord are disconnected before unplugging the power brush.
2. Disconnect the hose handle from the wand.
3. Keep the hose neatly coiled when not in use.
4. Store in a clean, dry place.

4. Maintaining the Power Brush

WARNING: Disconnect electrical supply before servicing or cleaning.

4.1 How to Change the Belt

1. Turn the power brush over; using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the 3 brush roll cover retaining screws.
2. Remove the brush roll cover.
3. Slide the belt-side end and pull the brush roll sideways to free it from the base, then lift it out of its compartment.
4. Disengage the brush roll from the worn belt and extract the belt from the motor shaft with a twisting motion in the enlarged area made for that purpose.
5. Install the new belt by reversing steps 4 to 1.

Note: To ease belt replacement, insert one end around the motor shaft in the enlarged area first, then insert the brush roll through the belt until seated, then push the brush roll down into place.

4.2 How to Change the Brush Roll

Replace the brush roll when bristles are worn down to the base support bars level.

1. Turn the power brush over and remove the 3 brush roll cover retaining screws.
2. Remove the brush roll cover.
3. Slide and pull the brush roll sideways to free it, then lift it out.
4. Disengage the brush roll from the belt and discard the worn roll.
5. Insert the new brush roll through the belt until seated, then push down into place.
6. Reverse steps 2 to 1 to finish reassembly.

• Wand Part No. CT170 — compatible with Vacuum Hose Part Nos. CH520 & CH620
• Wand Part No. CT175 — compatible with Vacuum Hose Part Nos. CH515, CH615, VXCH515 & VXCH615

6. Service Information

Check the belt and brush roll often to avoid unnecessary service calls. Replace the belt if stretched or cracked. Clean brush roll bristles when wrapped with thread/hair, as buildup causes uneven rotation. The model and serial numbers are on the rating label underneath the power brush — always reference these when requesting service. The motor is permanently lubricated and sealed — never oil it.

Warranty

One-year limited warranty: NuTone warrants the original consumer purchaser that products are free from defects in materials/workmanship for one year from purchase date. NuTone will repair or replace defective products at its option.
