    Installation instructions for the NuTone 360 Series Automatic On/Off Wall/Floor Inlet and Model 361 mounting bracket — central vacuum wall inlets and inlet hardware.

    Overview

    The 360 Series wall inlets connect to a central vacuum power unit and activate automatically when a hose is inserted, controlled by an internal switch. This guide covers mounting the inlet bracket during rough-in, installing the wall inlet after finishing, and performing a final system check.

    Mounting Bracket Installation (Rough-In)

    1. Determine the wall inlet locations and mount all inlet brackets.
    2. Measure approximately 18" up from the finished floor to locate the bracket on a wall stud (height may vary by preference).
    3. Nail the bracket to the side of the stud so the bracket's front edge is flush with the front of the stud. (The bracket can also be nailed to the front edge of the stud — use the locating tabs for proper alignment in that case.)
    4. Remove the cardboard from the plaster guard frame. Using the four provided screws, attach the appropriate flanged fitting and inlet seal to the back of the inlet.
    5. Replace the cardboard into the plaster guard frame.
    6. Plumb the tubing to the inlet, and run 2-conductor low-voltage cable (Model 376 or 376UL) between the inlet and the power unit.

    Caution: Where tubing passes through a wall stud, sole plate, header, or any area where building materials will be attached, place a nail plate (Model 378) over that area — on both sides if necessary — to prevent nails from piercing the tubing.

    Wall Inlet Installation (After Wall Finishing)

    1. Once walls are finished, install the wall inlets.
    2. Remove the cardboard plaster guard.
    3. For drywall/panel construction where the plaster frame extends beyond the finished wall, remove the plaster frame from the mounting bracket by removing the mounting screws.
    4. Connect the 2-conductor low-voltage wire to the terminal screws on the back of the wall inlet.
    5. Guide excess wire back through the hole in the inlet bracket and flanged fitting.
    6. Place the inlet into the mounting bracket and secure it.

    Note: In 1/4" or 1/2" thick walls, the wall inlet's tube may extend into the flanged fitting's elbow area and cause a blockage — shorten the wall inlet tube to prevent this. For extra-thick walls, use Model 399 extension sleeves to connect the inlet to the flanged fitting.

    Final System Check

    • Confirm all inlets are closed and the soil bag/dirt receptacle is in place.
    • Check the switch on the power unit for manual on/off operation.
    • Check each wall inlet to confirm its contacts activate the power unit when a hose is inserted — a short piece of wire can be used to short the contacts together to test activation.
    • Check each wall inlet and tubing connection for air leaks.
    • Check the power unit for leaks around the inlet tube and dirt receptacle.
