Product data sheet for the GE/UTC NetworX NX-584E Home Automation Module — an add-on card that provides an RS-232 interface for connecting a NetworX security control panel to a home automation host system.

Overview

The NX-584E is a low-cost add-on module that fits neatly into any NetworX family system enclosure and provides a standard RS-232 bi-directional DB-9 connector for connection to a home automation host system. A simple three-wire connection to the main control panel is all that's required to fully integrate this card.

The NX-584E has several levels of security programmable at installation, controlling how much security-system information is passed to the host system. It can also be set to limit which commands are accepted from the host system, preventing unauthorized attempts to override the security system status. The unit is configurable for communication in ASCII or Binary protocol, with a selectable baud rate from 600 baud to 76.8k baud and hardware RTS/CTS handshaking. ASCII is easy to use and debug with standard programming tools, while Binary is more efficient for transferring information between systems. The system integrator can select any number of events or conditions to cause the NX-584E to send relevant information to the host without polling — allowing faster response to activity than polling alone.
