    Installation manual for the GE/UTC NetworX NX-582E AES Radio Interface — a microprocessor-controlled module that reports events from NX-8/NX-8E control panels via an AES long-range radio.

    General Description

    The NX-582E is a microprocessor-controlled AES radio interface. This interface allows any or all events from the NX-8/NX-8E control panel to be reported via AES radio Models 7050-E, 7050-DLR (v2.2 or higher), 7450, 7450-XL, 7750, and 7750-F.

    Enclosure Information

    Inside the enclosure ("can"), several 2-holed insertion points allow either vertical or horizontal placement of the module. The insertion points have two hole sizes — a larger hole and a smaller hole. Black plastic PCB guides are grooved on one edge where the PC board seats; the half-moon protrusion end fits into the larger hole and the smaller hole is for the mounting screw. Mount the first guide in the top insertion point (grooved edge downward) and secure with a screw; mount the second guide in the lower insertion point (grooved edge upward), positioned opposite the first. The PC board should then slide freely in the grooves of both guides.

    Addressing

    The NX-582E has a fixed address of 77. When programming the interface, enter Program Mode and select the device address as [7]-[7].

    Enrolling

    The NX-8/NX-8E automatically finds and stores in memory the presence of all keypads, zone expanders, wireless receivers, and other buss devices, so they can be supervised (the "Service" LED illuminates if a device isn't detected). To enroll: enter Program Mode via the standard installation procedure; when Program Mode is exited, the panel automatically enrolls devices (about 12 seconds, during which the Service LED illuminates and user codes are not accepted).

    Understanding the LEDs

    LED Description
    DS1 Flashes each time the NX-582E has an opportunity to speak to the control panel — should flash about twice per second.
    DS3 Flashes when attempting to establish communication with the AES radio.
    DS4 Flashes when the AES radio acknowledges receipt of the event message.
    DS5 Flashes when the NX-582E sends a test "Ping" to the AES radio.
    DS6 Flashes when the AES radio responds with a good reply to the test Ping.
    DS2 Located toward the back of the board; used for hardware — glows dimly only when connected to the NX-8/NX-8E control.

    Note: DS3 through DS6 will be off if the system is initialized, normal, and waiting for a new event to report.

    Wiring the Interface

    Wire the 3-position terminal on the NX-582E to the NX-8/NX-8E control panel keypad interface: Positive → KP POS, COM → KP COM, DATA → KP DATA. Connect the wiring harness from the NX-582E connector labeled J6 to the AES radio connector labeled J1.

    Programming the NX-582E

    Entering Program Mode

    1. Press [*]-[8]. The five function LEDs (Stay, Chime, Exit, Bypass, Cancel) begin flashing.
    2. Enter the "Go To Program Code" (factory default is 9-7-1-3). If valid, the Service LED flashes and the five function LEDs illuminate steady — you're now in Program Mode.
    3. Select the module to program by entering the NX-582E address, [7]-[7], followed by [#]. The Armed LED illuminates, waiting for a programming location.

    Programming a Location

    Enter the desired location followed by [#]. If valid, the Armed LED extinguishes, the Ready LED illuminates, and the first data segment displays on the zone LEDs. While entering new data, the Ready LED flashes until saved by pressing the [*] key, which then advances to the next segment. Pressing [#] exits the location. Use [POLICE] for next sequential location, [FIRE] for previous location, [MEDIC] to stay on the same location. To review data without changing it, press [*] repeatedly without numeric entry.

    Exiting

    Press [Exit] to leave the current programming level and return to "Select a Module to Program." Press [Exit] again to leave Program Mode entirely, or enter another module's address followed by [#] to continue programming.

    Programming Data Types

    Numerical data (0–255): entered directly on the numeric keypad; the zone LEDs 1–8 represent binary values 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 that sum to the stored value (e.g., "66" lights Zone 2 + Zone 7 LEDs: 2 + 64 = 66).

    Feature selection data: each of 8 LEDs represents a togglable feature; pressing the corresponding numeric key (1–8) toggles that feature on/off, shown by the LED illuminating or extinguishing.

    Programming Locations

    Location Function
    0 Account Code (6 segments, numerical) — provided by AES; if fewer than 6 digits, program "10" immediately after the last real digit.
    1 Partitions to be reported (1 segment, feature selection). Turning off a partition's LED excludes ALL events from that partition regardless of Locations 3–6.
    2 Transmission format: 0 = Contact ID, 1 = SIA, 2 = 4+2.
    3–4 Events enabled when the phone line is faulted (8 segments each): Alarm/Restore, Shunt/Restore, Tamper/Restore, Trouble/Restore, Sensor Low Battery/Missing, Duress, Auxiliary 1/2, Holdup, Keypad Panic/Tamper, Box Tamper, AC Fail/Restore, Low Battery, Fuse fault, Siren Tamper, Phone Line Monitor, Expander Trouble, Fail to Communicate, Log Full, Open/Close, Exit Error, Recent Close, Autotest, Program Start/End, Download Start/Complete, Cancel, Ground Fault, Maintenance Test, and Data Lost.
    5–6 The same event categories as Locations 3–4, but enabled when the phone line is normal/good. Program both sets (3–4 and 5–6) if reports should be sent regardless of phone line condition.
