NetMedia TriplePlay Modulator (NM-73) — Manual

Overview

The NetMedia TriplePlay Modulator (NM-73) combines up to three audio/video sources — VCRs, laserdisc players, surveillance/security cameras, satellite receivers, or other AV devices — onto a home's coax cable distribution system, letting every TV in the house tune to those sources on dedicated channels alongside the regular cable/antenna feed.

Connecting the TriplePlay Modulator

1. Insert the male RCA connector from the video source into one of the TriplePlay's RCA video inputs.
2. Insert the 3.5mm stereo jack from the audio source into one of the TriplePlay's stereo audio inputs.
3. Use a male "F" connector cable to route the TriplePlay's modulated RF output to a splitter/combiner, which merges it with the main cable/antenna feed.
4. Plug the provided 12V DC, 300mA power supply into a power outlet and into the TriplePlay.

The splitter/combiner output then feeds the home's cable distribution to individual TV sets, allowing viewers to tune to the video source's assigned channel from any connected television.

Programming (Setting Channels)

Available channel ranges: UHF 14–69, or Cable 70–94 and 100–125. Read the full programming sequence before starting — if you don't complete programming promptly, it will time out and you'll have to start over.

• Choose channels not currently used by any local broadcast, cable, or other modulated source. Note: many cable companies use channels 80–116 for digital services — avoid those.
• Leave at least one blank (unused) channel separating each modulated channel from other sources.
• Cable boxes must be bypassed to view modulator output on connected TVs.

Triple-Channel Setup (program all three modulator channels at once)

1. Tap the Select button until all three LEDs are on.
2. Press and hold the button until the LEDs start flashing and the channel count begins from 0.
3. Each press while flashing increases the channel number by 10 (e.g. 12 presses = channel 120).
4. Release the button; wait for the LEDs to turn on.
5. Each subsequent press increases the channel number by 1 (e.g. 1 press = channel 121).
6. Wait for the LEDs to blink once — programming is complete.

Example: setting the base channel to 121 assigns the three channels to 121, 123, and 125 (each channel is offset from the base — the first modulator is set to the selected channel, the second is 2 channels higher, the third is 4 channels higher). Other examples: setting 14 → 14, 16, 18; setting 70 → 70, 72, 74; setting 94 → 94, 101, 103.

Individual Channel Programming

Each of the three channels can also be set individually by following the same programming steps while only that channel's LED is on.

Test Pattern & Disabling Unused Modulators

• A test pattern (two white vertical bars) displays after programming, or whenever the Select button is tapped.
• To disable an unused modulator channel, enter programming mode and let it time out without selecting a channel — this sets it to channel 00.

Example Application — Modulating DSS/Satellite Over a Cable System

A common use case: feed a DSS/satellite receiver's audio/video output (optionally including S-Video) through an A/V distribution amp into the TriplePlay Modulator's RF input, then combine the modulated RF output with the home's existing cable/antenna feed via a splitter/combiner — so any TV in the house can tune the satellite feed on its assigned channel without a dedicated cable run.
