    Overview

    The NetMedia Power over Coax (PoC) system uses two modules — a Video Encoder at the camera end and a Video Decoder at the viewing end — connected by a single coax cable, supporting cable distances up to 100 feet. View the video via a security monitor or the composite RCA Video Input jack of a television.

    Installation Procedure

    1. Connect a coax cable (RG6 recommended) to the F-Connectors of the Video Encoder and Decoder. Each Encoder/Decoder pair needs a dedicated point-to-point wiring circuit — do NOT connect this coax to other video distribution equipment, as it could damage the product and any attached devices.
    2. Connect a video cable from the camera to the Encoder's RCA Video In jack (simple adapters like RCA-to-BNC may be used where needed).
    3. Connect the Power Extension Cable from the Encoder's Power Output to the camera's 12V DC power input. If the camera requires more than 150mA or doesn't use 12V DC, it cannot use the Encoder's power output.
    4. Connect a video cable from the viewing device (monitor, quad, DVR, modulator) to the Decoder's RCA Video Out jack, using adapters as needed.
    5. Connect the 24V DC 200mA power transformer from an AC outlet to the Decoder's Power Input Connector.

    Typical Wiring Configurations

    • Direct to a monitor/TV: Camera → Encoder (via coax) → Decoder → Monitor/TV's composite RCA Video In jack. The picture will not be available on a channel, and viewers must switch the TV to the correct video/line input.
    • Multiple pieces of video equipment: Camera → Encoder (via coax) → Decoder → Quad Sequencer or DVR → Monitor/TV. Every device in the chain except the last must have a loopback or video-output jack.
    • Whole-house distribution via modulator: Camera → Encoder (via coax) → Decoder → Modulator → Amplifier → Splitter/Combiner (combined with the main antenna/cable feed) → Distribution panel → Multiple TVs, viewable on the modulated channel.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can I connect the coax between the modules to video distribution equipment?
    No. Do not connect the F-Connector coax of the Encoder or Decoder to other video equipment — the Decoder outputs DC voltage on the coax that other equipment may not be designed to handle, and doing so could damage this product or other attached devices. Each Encoder/Decoder pair needs a dedicated point-to-point circuit; the modules will not work properly with RF splitters, diplexers, or amplifiers. The Decoder's RCA Video Out jack, however, can connect to composite video equipment such as monitors, TVs, DVRs, and modulators.

    How can I see the video on my TV without an expensive security monitor?
    Plug the Decoder's composite video signal directly into a TV's RCA Video Input jack and view it on the correct input, or feed it into a modulator (such as NetMedia's MM70) to convert it to a UHF/cable channel distributable to all TVs alongside existing antenna/cable/satellite service.

    Will the modules work beyond 100 feet?
    Not officially supported, but some installations function satisfactorily beyond 100 feet with degraded video quality as cable length increases, until power gives out over the next few hundred feet.

    What's the difference between Power over Coax and modulated devices?
    Both enable One Wire Video™ over a single coax, but differ in output signal type. Modulated devices (e.g. NetMedia's RM70) output a TV channel requiring a tuner to view — good for distributing to all TVs on the same coax/splitters/amplifiers as the local antenna/cable/satellite signal, but inconvenient for tuner-less equipment like a security DVR or Quad display. PoC modules output composite video directly compatible with such equipment; whole-house distribution can still be achieved by modulating the DVR/Quad output.

    FCC Compliance

    This product, installed as specified, meets FCC requirements. Modifications not expressly approved by NetMedia may void FCC authorization to use the product. FCC compliance requires that the Encoder and Decoder module end plates be fastened whenever the units are in operation. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with Class B digital device limits per Part 15 of the FCC rules, providing reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.

    NetMedia, Inc. warrants this product free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for one year from purchase date; NetMedia will repair or, at its option, replace the defective product.
