NAPCO PCD-Windows Quickloader — Getting Started Guide

Getting Started guide for NAPCO PCD-Windows Quickloader — the download/programming software for NAPCO GEM and Freedom security control panels.

Overview

PCD-Windows Quickloader is NAPCO's download software for configuring and programming NAPCO control panels. Complete supporting documentation is embedded in the software's built-in Help system, including context-sensitive help for control panel features.

Compatible Operating Systems

Windows Server 2003 (SP1+), Windows XP (SP2+), Windows Vista (32/64-bit), and Windows 7 (32/64-bit). NAPCO recommends the latest OS service packs, MS Internet Explorer 5.01+, MDAC 2.6+ for data access, and Administrator permissions.

Minimum System Requirements

• IBM-compatible P3 450MHz desktop/notebook or faster
• 250MB available hard drive space, 128MB RAM
• One unused RS-232 serial port (Com 1-8) or optional USB port with serial adapter
• A NAPCO-compatible modem

Installation

1. Close any programs (including anti-virus, anti-spyware, and monitoring tools) before starting.
2. Insert the CD-ROM.
3. If Auto Start is enabled, installation begins automatically; otherwise run startup.exe from the CD-ROM drive, or Start > Run > <CD-ROM Drive>:\startup.exe.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions; a Windows restart may be required.
5. Steps 3-4 may need to be repeated if a DCOM or Service Pack install was required.

For network installations, see NAPCO document WI1234. Database files install by default to C:\Program Files\Napco Security Group\Quickloader for Windows\Database.

Starting the Program

Start menu > Programs > Napco Security Group > Quickloader for Windows. ("Napco Security Group" is the default group name unless changed during install.)

Login Screen

1. Type master as the Login Name and select a master password.
2. Press Return or click Login to accept.
3. Click OK to create a new Quickloader for Windows database.
4. Confirm the master password by re-entering it.

Important: Write down the master password and keep it safe — if lost, you will NOT be able to access this database as master again.

Setting Up the Modem and PCI2000/3000

1. Click File > Modem Settings.
2. Choose the Modem port and the PCI2000/Mini port.
3. Choose your modem from the list.
4. Click OK to accept changes.
5. Test the port with the PCI2000 Port Test button (see NAPCO doc WI1395 for more on ports).

If problems occur, refer to NAPCO's "Troubleshooting Modems for Quickloader for Windows" (WI1321).

Account Information Screen

The Account screen is the first screen after login. To edit/program an account, open it by selecting it from the list and pressing Open, or double-clicking it.

• New — create a new account (requires an account number or name)
• Open — open an existing account
• Close — close an open account
• Edit — edit a subscriber's info and change the account name
• Find — search by any combination of fields (supports wildcards *, ? — e.g. *bayview* finds all accounts with "bayview" in the street address)
• Copy — duplicate an account
• Delete — remove an account

Express 400, Express 600, GEM-P400, GEM-P800, GEM-P801, GEM-P816, GEM-P1632, GEM-P1664, GEM-P3200, GEM-P9600, GEM-X255, Gemini C-Series, Freedom F-8, Freedom F-64, MA1008E, MA1008LKDL, MA1010LKDL, MA1016LKDL, MA1016E, MA1000E, MA3000. Also supports the new Freedom Coded Keypads with Freedom 64 and GEM-P1664 panels.

Compatible USB adapters: Saelig US232B, Keyspan 18HS, USB UMC-100, FTDI FT8U232AM, Belkin F5U103 (discontinued).

Icon Overview (Programming Sections)

• Account Information — account number/name, panel model, creation date, personal info, phone/email, comments
• Toggle Zone Assignment / Feature View — switch between the new Zone Assignment screen and the classic NAPCO Feature View (keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+Shift+Z / Ctrl+Shift+F)
• Panel Selection — panel type, number of areas/keypads, security program codes, callback numbers, log/event limits, site-initiated features, time zone/power line frequency, language, help phones
• Digital Communications — central station info, subscriber IDs, report codes, dialing options, pager options, NL-MOD setup
• System Assignment — EZM zone assignments, wireless key fob RF ID/buttons, external relay control, feature time selections, system reporting/outputs, GEM-PRINT features
• NAC/Output Assignment — control panel integral outputs, event-to-output mapping, reporting selections
• Area Assignment — area descriptions, disarm areas, priority areas
• Keypad Assignment — keypad assignment/features/configuration/reporting, ACM assignment (GEM-X255, GEM-P9600, GEM-P3200 only)

Zone Assignment & Feature View

Click in any field in the Description column to type zone descriptions (text appears exactly as typed on the keypad display). Right-click to "Add to Zone Library" (save for later) or "Find Zone Description" (bring up saved descriptions). Click in any Zone Type row to open the Zone Configuration screen. RF ID numbers for transmitters/keyfobs can be typed directly into the Wireless column — click a row, type the ID, and the highlight auto-advances; use arrow keys to move between rows.

Selecting Zone Features: configure a zone without a Zone Type (auto-named "User Defined Zone"); select from pre-existing Zone Types; or modify an existing Zone Type and save as a new one (via Create). A Master User can restrict others from creating/saving new Zone Types.

Panel Communications (Downloading)

Three communication buttons on the main toolbar represent the three ways to communicate with the panel:

• Local (High Speed) — direct physical wired connection with the installer present
• Remote (Telco) — download/upload via telephone line
• TCP/IP — download/upload via network (requires preliminary setup per WI1298)

Click a Communications button to select the type; all previous Status requests are saved (Panel History > Status History). Set the default transfer operation under File > Preferences > Panel Configurations > Default Transfer Option.

Importing Existing PCD3000 Accounts

1. File > Import Multiple Accounts. Set "Files of type" to PCD3000 Account (*.ql9) and browse to the folder containing them.
2. Select all accounts to import (Ctrl+click each, or select all since account names aren't visible yet).
3. Click Open — an Import Accounts dialog lists all selected accounts by name; click each then > to include, or All >> then < to exclude specific ones.
4. Enter the PCD3000 Master Passcode (same one used to access the Dealer section of PCD3000) and click OK.
5. All selected accounts convert and appear in the Account Operations screen, ready to open and maintain in PCD-Windows.

Note: A newer "Export/Import Extended QL9 Files" option (File > Preferences > General) includes ACM 2 Logs, ACM 2 Card Users, and Account Activity Logs — larger file size, importable only by QLW6.0+.

Importing Existing PCD2000 Accounts

1. Copy the "PCD2000.spf" file into the same folder as the PCD2000 Accounts (.acc files).
2. File > Import Multiple Accounts; set "Files of type" to PCD2000 Account (*.acc) and browse to that folder.
3. Select all accounts (Ctrl+A or individually with Ctrl+click).
4. Click Open — include desired accounts via > or All >> / <. Accounts already existing in the program get a digit appended in the "Accounts Not Imported" area.
5. Enter the PCD2000 Master Passcode for each account (same as used for the Dealer section of PCD2000). Optionally check the box to skip accounts with rejected passcodes, and copy skipped accounts to a specific folder.
6. Converted accounts appear in Account Operations, ready to open and maintain.

Using Quickloader for Windows Help

Click Help > Quickloader for Windows Help Topics. Three modes: Contents (tree-style topic folders), Index (alphabetical listing, searchable by typing), and Search (keyword search across virtually all topics). Context help is also available from any screen via the ? icon, or Help > What's This? to turn the pointer into a question mark for click-to-help.
