Napco GEM-WP Panic Transmitter — Installation Instructions

Installation and programming instructions for the Napco GEM-WP Panic Transmitter — a single-button pendant/keychain emergency transmitter compatible with Gemini and NAPCO Express control panels.

General Description

The GEM-WP is a single-function pendant/keychain transmitter compatible with all Gemini and NAPCO Express control panels when used with the appropriate wireless receiver:

• GEM-REVC-XP8 — compatible with NAPCO Express Series and GEM-P400 & GEM-P800
• GEM-RECV8, GEM-RECV16, or GEM-RECV96 — compatible with other Gem series control panels

It serves as an emergency device for police panic and/or auxiliary emergency signaling. Two replaceable Energizer 386 1.5V silver oxide cells power the transmitter. Press the button momentarily to transmit the alarm signal to the Central Station — the LED lights while transmitting.

Low-Battery Check

Batteries are checked automatically during any transmission. A low-battery condition causes the LED to stay on for twice the normal time, then pulse about once every 1.5 seconds; a low-battery report is sent to the receiver.

Required Programming

Refer to your control panel/keypad instructions for detailed programming steps. For each unit you need:

• An assigned Key Fob transmitter number
• Area number(s) the transmitter applies to
• The 6-digit ID code with checksum digit printed on the transmitter (enter all numbers/letters, including leading zeros)
• The appropriate Aux. 1 function (Panic or Auxiliary)

If more GEM-WP transmitters are needed, the GEM-P1632, GEM-P3200, and GEM-P9600 panels support mapping a GEM-WP directly to a zone:

• On the Wireless screen, program the 6-digit ID code to a zone.
• Program the point as Point 3.
• On the Zone Features screen, program the zone for 24-hour protection, and remove swinger shutdown if it was programmed.
• On the Alarm/Trouble Reporting screen, program the appropriate reporting code.

Battery Replacement

1. Remove the screws on the bottom of the case and turn it over. Lift off the top cover to expose the circuit boards.
2. Carefully lift the top circuit board (no more than 45 degrees) to allow removal of batteries from the bottom circuit board.
3. Slide the bottom battery out and away from the circuit board; replace it, angling it correctly on entry.
4. Replace the top battery by sliding it out to the right; replace it the same way.
5. Carefully press the top circuit board back toward the bottom circuit board. Reassemble the case and slip the neckchain through the eyelet.
6. Test the button to verify function. Note: inform the Central Station about the test, or disable panic transmission during the test.

Caution: Do not remove the JP1 jumper on the circuit board.

Adjusting Chain Length

The GEM-WP includes a plastic bead neck chain:

1. Disconnect the chain from one end of the plastic connector by removing a plastic bead.
2. Using scissors, cut the chain to the desired length.
3. Reconnect the chain to the connector by inserting a bead into it.

Warranty

Napco warrants its products free from manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for 36 months from the date of manufacture. Napco will, at its option, repair or replace any product failing to operate correctly within that period, at no charge to the original purchaser. This warranty does not cover equipment repaired by others, improperly installed or used, abused, altered, damaged, subjected to acts of God, or with altered/removed serial numbers. There is no warranty beyond the description stated, and no warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Napco recommends the entire system be tested weekly.
