Owner's manual for the M&S Systems dmc1/dmc1CD intercom and sound system, covering setup, intercom modes, Room/Patio and Door station operation, CD player, and RF remote programming.
Owner's manual for the M&S Systems dmc1/dmc1CD intercom and sound system, covering system settings, clock and radio setup, intercom operation, Room/Patio station and Door station functions, CD player operation, and RF remote programming.
Read all instructions carefully before installing or using the dmc1 system. The dmc1 must be installed by M&S Systems dealers or installers, and must conform to all local building and electrical codes.
The dmc1 is an intercom and sound system for the home, allowing communication with family members, monitoring of specified rooms, and listening to music (radio, CDs, or other sources) throughout the home. Keep this manual for reference; it can also be downloaded from www.mssystems.com.
The dmc1 System consists of three major components:
Controls the system intercom and music capabilities. System setup — clock, music auto on/off times, music source selection, preset radio stations, scan mode, RF Remote activation — is established here. System volume, loudness, treble, bass, and balance (with optional amplifier) are also controlled from the Master Station. Intercom functionality for each Room/Patio Station is set via the intercom selector switches (Intercom Only, Radio and Intercom, Off, or Monitor). The system also supports Monitor Override and optional Security/Home Automation features.
Provides intercom functions and system music control. Depending on Master Station room configuration, a Room/Patio Station can communicate with or monitor other stations and communicate with Door Stations. Music can be turned on/off, volume adjusted, and sources changed from a Room Station (dmc1RS).
An exterior intercom speaker and doorbell installed at home entrances (up to 3 supported). Any station with its Intercom Selector Switch set to Intercom or Radio/INT can communicate with the Door Station.
Master Station front panel controls: AUTO (enable/disable Music Auto On/Off), TIME (set clock and Music Auto On/Off times), PRESET (preset radio stations), TUNE UP/DOWN (tune AM/FM radio), POWER (turn system music on/off), TONE (select volume/tone settings), SOURCE (select music source), VOLUME UP/DOWN (change volume, tone, time settings), LISTEN/TALK, DOOR TALK, MODE, NEXT DISC.
Two clock functions: Normal (time of day) and Music Auto On/Off (times to automatically turn the last music source on, then off).
To change clock settings:
Note: enable/disable the AUTO function separately — "Auto" appears on the display when it's on (see Music Settings below).
Music Source — four sources available: AUX (any connected external source), AM radio, FM radio, or CD (dmc1 System CD player; can also connect an external audio device if no dmc1CD player is present).
To select a music source:
Music Auto On/Off: Set Auto On/Off times under Clock Settings, then press AUTO to toggle on/off. "AUTO" appears on the display when active.
Radio Settings — Tune the Radio: Up to 8 presets per band (AM/FM).
Preset Radio Stations:
Note: cancel at any time by pressing TUNE UP and TUNE DOWN simultaneously again — no preset will be stored.
Scan Mode — two modes:
To set Scan Mode: simultaneously press and release PRESET and SOURCE — the display shows Scan1 or Scan2. Exit by pressing PRESET and SOURCE again, or wait for the clock display to return.
Volume types: Music (system music volume), Master Station (speaker on Master Station only), Intercom (system intercom volume).
Tone types: Loudness, Treble, Bass, Balance (if optional stereo power amplifier is installed).
To change volume/tone settings:
Simultaneously press TUNE UP and POWER — the display cycles through low, medium, and high brightness levels, then repeats. Press repeatedly until reaching your preferred level.
Set on the Master Station, each station can be configured to one of four modes: Intercom Only, Radio/INT (Music source and Intercom), Off, or Monitor. Note: with more than 9 Room Stations, some intercom selector switches control two room stations. The panel includes selector switches labeled 1-9 for Room Stations, "M" for the Master Station, and "P" for the Patio Station, plus a Privacy button.
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Intercom (Only) | Can talk/listen from this station; does not receive music; cannot be monitored; cannot hear rooms set to Monitor (but sound/activity in this room can be heard by another room via that room's LISTEN button); hears the door chime and can talk/listen to the Door Station. |
| Radio/INT (Music + Intercom) | Can talk/listen; receives music; can monitor any station set to Monitor (monitored audio plays alongside music when music is on); this station itself cannot be monitored; hears the door chime and can communicate with a Door Station. |
| Off | A Room Station can still communicate, but a Patio Station cannot. Other stations cannot listen to it. No music or intercom audio. Cannot be monitored. Does not hear the door chime and cannot talk/listen to the Door Station. |
| Monitor | Any Radio/INT station can continually hear all sound/activity in this room. This station can communicate with other room stations, but cannot hear the door chime. Can talk to the Door Station but not listen to it. Does not receive music. Other rooms can talk to a monitored station only if Monitor Override is on. |
Talk: Press TALK and begin speaking to talk to all stations set to Intercom or Radio/INT, unless they have PRIVACY activated. You can hear remote users if you press LISTEN or they press TALK.
Listen: Press LISTEN to hear all stations set to Intercom or Radio/INT (cannot hear PRIVACY-activated stations).
All Radio/INT stations on the Master Station can continually hear sound/activity from a station set to Monitor. From the Master Station, Monitor Override lets you temporarily let stations set to Monitor hear incoming talk from other room stations (normally, Monitor stations hear nothing incoming when override is off).
To toggle Monitor Override: simultaneously press and release AUTO and POWER — the display shows ON or OFF. Exit by pressing AUTO and POWER again, or wait for the clock display to return.
When PRIVACY is activated at a station: it cannot be listened to or monitored; it can still use Talk; it still receives music; it still hears the door chime.
Controls another properly connected system (e.g., a door release mechanism, lights, or alarm). Available from the Master Station and all remote scan Room Stations (dmc1RS) — not available from a Patio Station.
To activate from a room station: simultaneously press and hold VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN for at least 4 seconds — the feature stays active while held, and deactivates on release.
Room/Patio Station controls: DOOR TALK, LISTEN, TALK, SCAN (OFF/ON), PRIVACY, MUSIC VOLUME +/-, SPEAKER VOLUME. TALK + LISTEN simultaneously talks/listens to the Door Station. LISTEN alone hears all Intercom/Radio-INT stations (unless PRIVACY is active). TALK alone talks to all Intercom/Radio-INT stations. VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN scans music sources (hold 4+ seconds to activate Security/Home Automation — not available on Patio Station). SPEAKER VOLUME adjusts the room station's own speaker volume; disable Listen and Monitor via PRIVACY. MUSIC VOLUME press-and-hold turns System Music off/on, and pressing adjusts System Music volume.
Press VOLUME UP or DOWN from any Room/Patio Station.
Available sources vary by the Scan setting on the Master Station. You cannot select specific CD tracks from a Room/Patio Station.
To scan for a music source: simultaneously press and release VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN to switch sources. Note: holding these buttons 4+ seconds instead triggers the Security/Home Automation function (not available on the Patio Station).
The Door Station has a speaker and door chime button. When pressed, the chime sounds on all stations set to Intercom or Radio/INT — even if PRIVACY is activated. All system audio (music and intercom) is muted when the chime rings. If the Door Station is already engaged in a talk/listen session, the chime is not heard.
When CD is selected, the display shows which CD is playing (circle around the CD number) and the current track number. Initially the display shows six CD positions; if a position has no CD loaded, its number disappears.
Up to 4 different remotes can be programmed to control the Master Station. Each remote obtains a unique code, preventing interference with (or from) other systems.
To program the RF remote:
Note: cancel programming by pressing and releasing AUTO and SOURCE again. The RF remote works from any location in the house — you don't need to be in the same room as the Master Station.
Remote controls: Tune Down/Tune Up (scan radio stations when AM/FM is the audio source; scan mode is set at the Master Station), Source (select AUX, AM, FM, or CD), Volume Down (press-and-hold to turn off System Music, press to adjust volume), Volume Up (press-and-hold to turn on System Music, press to adjust volume).
Note: if 4 remotes have already been programmed and a replacement remote is ordered (due to breakage or loss), all 4 remotes will need to be reprogrammed.
