Quick Install Guide for the Luxul XWC-1000 Wireless Controller, which auto-configures and manages compatible Luxul access points.

Quick Install Guide for the Luxul XWC-1000 Wireless Controller — a network appliance that auto-discovers, configures, and manages compatible Luxul access points on the same subnet.

    Overview

The XWC-1000 Wireless Controller connects to the network alongside any compatible Luxul Access Points. Once configured, it automatically configures and manages all compatible APs on the same subnet, and APs can be added or removed from the managed profile at any time. A DHCP server is required on the network. With internet access, the controller automatically checks for firmware updates for itself and its managed APs; without internet access it still operates normally, but firmware updates won't be available.

    Package Contents

    • XWC-1000 Wireless Controller
    • Rack Mount Kit
    • Power Cord

    Before You Begin

    • Access Point Firmware: Confirm firmware of any APs to be managed is v5 or newer (see luxul.com/ap-upgrade).
    • AP Placement: Space APs for adequate coverage with enough overlap for smooth roaming — ideally, a roaming client should see signal strength of -60 to -70 dBm from two overlapping APs at the midpoint between them. Consider Ekahau HeatMapper (www.ekahau.com) or Luxul's How-To video (luxul.com/how-to-videos) to help plan placement; also see luxul.com/ap-placement.

    1. Physical Installation

    1. Use an Ethernet cable to plug the XWC-1000 into the network, then connect its power cable.
    2. Connect (or confirm connection of) any Access Points to the same network.

    2. Preparing for Access — IP Addressing

    • If the XWC-1000 is on a network with a 192.168.0.X address scheme and your computer shares a similar address, skip ahead to Getting Connected.
    • Ensure a DHCP server is present and that all Luxul APs and the XWC-1000 share the same subnet.
    • If your network doesn't use a 192.168.0.X scheme, you'll need to temporarily change your computer's IP address to the same subnet to reach the controller for initial setup (see luxul.com/ip-addressing for OS-specific help).

    3. Getting Connected

Open a web browser and enter the Wireless Controller's default IP address to access the Setup Wizard.

    Field Default
    IP Address 192.168.0.19
    Username admin
    Password admin

Caution: If another device on the network already uses 192.168.0.19, either temporarily disconnect/reconfigure that device, or manually configure the Wireless Controller with a different address on an isolated network segment.

    4. Wireless Controller Configuration

Follow the built-in Setup Wizard to create a configuration profile. The controller will then automatically configure and manage all available APs on the network; APs can be added to or removed from the managed profile at any time. See luxul.com/smart-tips for setup and configuration best practices.

    5. Hardware Operation

    Front-Panel LED Color

Use the rear-panel switch to toggle the Power and System LEDs between green and blue, to best match the rack's other equipment.

    Resetting the Controller

    • Reset/Reboot: Briefly press and release the rear-panel Reset button (paper clip) to force a reboot. Front-panel LEDs go dark, then the System LED blinks slowly during reboot.
    • Restore Factory Defaults: Press and hold Reset for at least 5 seconds. The System LED blinks quickly to confirm the factory-reset action, goes dark briefly, then blinks slowly while booting.
    • Normal Operation: The System LED blinks in a heartbeat pattern (blink-blink-dark).
