    Software Installation

Compatible with Windows 98/2000/XP/Vista/7 (32-bit and 64-bit). Must be installed using an administrator account, though any Windows user level can run the program.

    1. Install the 1-Wire USB Driver first (enables the iButton connector): download from resortlock.com/Downloads.asp, run the installer, then plug the 1-Wire into the blue USB adapter and the adapter into your computer's USB port.
    2. Install the ResortLock Software: insert the included Software Management disk (or run SETUP.exe from the disk root if Autorun is disabled); the installer creates a desktop shortcut.

    Opening the Lock Management Software

    1. Ensure the 1-Wire/USB adapter is plugged in before starting the software.
    2. Double-click the desktop icon.
    3. Log in with the default User Name dallas / Password ibutton.

The default system password (000000) must be changed on first install — choose any new 6-digit code. This password will be passed to the lock's memory during initial programming; afterward, only iButtons with the matching system password can interact with the lock.

1-Wire Error: If you see "Please check your 1-wire adapter," the 1-Wire is not plugged in or the driver wasn't installed. Select OK to continue, then shut down the software, plug in the 1-Wire, and follow the hardware wizard if prompted before restarting the software.

    New Users / Operators

Go to Other > Operator Information > Operator Setting or Change Operator Password.

    1. Operator Setting: click Add, enter User Name and select User Level, click Save.
    2. Change Operator Password: enter the User Name from step 1, enter the Old Password (default 00000000), then the New Password and Confirm, and click OK.

Section 3 — Initial Lock & User Setup

    1. Lock Setup

New Lock Setup retrieves the lock's serial number, resets it to factory defaults, sets the system password, sets current date/time, and configures Daylight Saving, Lock Mode (Classroom vs. Storehouse), and LED behavior (blinking uses extra battery power).

    • Classroom Mode: lock remains unlocked after opening (re-enter code, or press the lock button on RL4000/LS1500, to relock)
    • Storehouse Mode: lock relocks automatically shortly after being unlocked

Step 1: New Lock Setup screen

Opens automatically on first launch, or via Lock Management > Setup New Lock. Choose Blink and/or Daylight Saving checkboxes and select Classroom or Storehouse mode.

    1. Insert the DS1977 Program Key into the iButton 1-Wire reader.
    2. Select the desired settings and click Issue Key; once written, remove the programming key and bring it to the lock.
    3. Push the lock's "Reset" button for 1 second. While the green light is on, touch and hold the DS1977 Program Key on the iButton reader until you hear several chirps followed by two short beeps.

Step 2: Plug in and issue the key

    1. Plug the blue iButton programming key into the 1-Wire reader.
    2. Click Issue Key. An alert warns this will erase existing lock information; click OK. Once you see "Write System Setup Key OK," remove the programming key.
    3. Bring the key to the lock and tap (don't hold) the reset button below the batteries inside the lock. You'll hear 2 quick beeps and the front iButton reader's green light lights up.
    4. While the green light is lit, hold the programming key to the iButton reader on the lock front. Two confirmation beeps means success.
    5. Return the key to the computer's 1-Wire reader and click Read Key in the left menu — the lock's Serial ID displays (not yet in the database).
    6. Click Add Lock, enter a lock name (e.g. "Front Door") and address; Lock Status reflects your earlier selection; set Lock Type to iButton.
    7. Click Save to store the lock in the software.

    2. User Setup — Issuing Permanent User Codes and iButtons

A two-step process: first add codes/iButtons to the software, then transfer that information to the lock.

Step 1: Add Codes/iButtons to Software

    1. Go to User Code Management > User Settings, click Add User.
    2. Choose a user type: iButton User, Key Code User, or Complex User.

To add an iButton User: select iButton User, click OK, snap the user's black iButton key into the 1-Wire reader (should be the only iButton connected), double-click the empty Serial ID field to auto-detect it, enter First/Last Name (leave Key Code blank), and click Save.

To add a Key Code User: select Key Code User, enter First/Last Name, type the user's PIN in the Key Code field, and click Save.

Optional profile fields: Status (Active/Inactive), Department (select existing or type a new one — saved to the list), Title, and Address.

Step 2: Assign iButtons & User Codes to a Lock

    1. Select Single-Lock Programming from the left menu.
    2. Select the target lock from the Lock Name dropdown (important if you manage more than one lock).
    3. Select a Time Shift (default: No Limit — no access restrictions).
    4. Optionally set Activation From / Expiration To dates for the code.
    5. Optionally check Exception Data to apply a Holiday Schedule.
    6. Check the Selected box for each Key Code/iButton to assign.
    7. Snap the programming key into the 1-Wire and click Issue Key.
    8. Touch the programming key to the lock's iButton reader; a double beep confirms completion. Test the transferred codes/iButtons.

To remove users from a lock: un-select them in the same screen, re-issue the key, and touch it to the lock — only the currently selected users retain access.

Step 3: Using iButtons & Codes

    • iButton: touch it to the lock's iButton reader.
    • User Code: enter the code, then press #.

    3. Temporary Remote Code Generation (ResortLock Only)

Remote codes can be issued to guests for anywhere from 1 hour to 364 days without being programmed directly into the lock — they are generated and validated remotely. More info at ResortLock.com.

    1. Click the Remote Code icon at the bottom of the left menu.
    2. Click the Lock Name field to open the lock selection window, click Search to list locks, highlight the desired lock, and click Select.
    3. Fill in Guest First/Last Name (required) and choose Code Type: Guest Temporary Code or One Time Service Code.
    4. Select Start Date/Time and End Date/Time for the access window.
    5. Click Create Code to generate the access code (10 digits for stays of 30 days or less, 12 digits for 31+ days). Guests enter the code followed by # to unlock the door.

    Sub-Access Codes

Guests can add their own short sub-access code (3–6 digits, up to 10 per temporary code):

    1. Press * until a solid green light appears on the iButton reader.
    2. Enter the Access Code followed by # — the green light starts flashing.
    3. While flashing, enter the desired 3–6 digit code followed by #. A double beep and green light confirm success.

    One-Time Service Codes

Up to 16 one-time service codes can be generated within the same time window by selecting "One Time Service Code" in the Code Type dropdown.

Section 4 — Advanced Access Control: Lock Management

    1. Lock Schedule

Automatically switches the lock between lock/unlock/Storehouse/Classroom modes at set times (e.g. unlock at 8AM, relock at 5PM, Monday–Friday).

    Step 1: Create the Schedule

    1. Go to Lock Management > Lock Schedule. There are 16 Timed Operation Groups, each with up to 16 settings. Groups 1 (No Limit Classroom Mode) and 2 (No Limit Storehouse Mode) are defaults and cannot be modified.
    2. Select a modifiable group (e.g. Lock Status 3) and click Add.
    3. Set the Begin Time, Lock Status, and applicable days of the week.

    Four available Lock Statuses:

    • Storehouse Mode: relocks within 0.1–25.5 seconds after unlocking
    • Classroom Mode: remains unlocked after unlocking
    • Lock Mode: automatically locks at the specified time
    • Unlock Mode: automatically unlocks at the specified time

Step 2: Assign the Schedule to a Lock

    1. Go to Lock Management > Lock Settings, select the target lock, click Modify, then Lock Status.
    2. Select the Lock Schedule created above, click Select, then Save.
    3. Re-issue the user key via Single-Lock or Multi-Lock Programming and touch it to the lock to transfer the schedule.

    2. Lock Maintenance

Found at Lock Management > Lock Maintenance. Available maintenance keys:

    • Set Parameter Key: change blinking light status, set time, enable Daylight Saving, and change lock-back delay time
    • Set Time Key: requires a DS1904 iButton with real-time clock; otherwise use Set Parameter Key
    • Get Information Key: retrieves date/time, lock mode, user list, serial number, and battery status
    • Lockout Key: locks out all other users temporarily — no other codes will function while active
    • One-off Key: programs the DS1977 key to unlock a selected door one time
    • One-off Code Key: programs up to 10 one-time codes into each lock

    3. Copy Lock Setting

Useful when multiple locks share identical settings (user codes and/or schedules). After configuring one lock fully, use it as the model:

    1. Select the Model Lock from the list.
    2. Choose Copy User List and/or Copy Lock Schedule.
    3. Select the target lock(s) from the list to receive the copied settings.

Section 5 — Advanced Access Control: User Management

    1. Time Shift Setting

Restricts user access to specific hours/days (e.g. Monday–Friday, 8AM–5PM). There are 16 Time Shift Groups with up to 7 settings each (one per day of the week). Group 1 (No Limit) is a fixed default.

    1. Go to User Code Management > Time Shifts, select a modifiable group (e.g. Time Shift 2).
    2. Click Add to add a day to the group.
    3. Set the Begin Time, End Time, and Day of Week, then click Save. Repeat for additional days.
    4. Assign the Time Shift Group to users in Single-Lock or Multi-Lock Programming.

    2. Holiday Schedule

Restricts access during holidays or facility closures. First create the schedule, then apply it to users as Exception Data.

    1. Go to User Code Management > Holiday Schedule. Group 1 (no exception dates) is the fixed default; Groups 2–16 are modifiable.
    2. Select a group, click Modify, set the Exception Date From/To (single day or a range), and click Save.
    3. Assign the Holiday Schedule to desired users in Single-Lock or Multi-Lock Programming.

    3. Activation / Expiration Date

Restricts a code to be valid only within a defined date/time window (e.g. active from 1/11 at 8AM to 3/31 at 7PM).

    1. Go to User Code Management > Activation / Expiration Date. Group 1 (no restriction) is the fixed default.
    2. Select a group, click Modify, set the Activation Date/Time and Expiration Date/Time, then click Save.
    3. Assign the Activation/Expiration Date to the desired users in Single-Lock or Multi-Lock Programming.

    Section 6 — Audit Trail

    1. Retrieving an Audit Trail

Each lock stores up to 4,000 access events (successful and unsuccessful); the oldest records are overwritten once the limit is reached. Retrieval is a multi-step process:

    1. Snap the DS1977 program key into the 1-Wire reader.
    2. Select the number of records to download per lock (more records per lock reduces the number of locks that can be audited in one trip).
    3. Click Issue Key; confirm the "Write Get Audit Trail key OK" message.
    4. Unplug the key and touch it to each lock's iButton reader — you'll hear a long series of chirps followed by two confirmation beeps.
    5. Return the key to the 1-Wire reader and click Read Key to display the records (may take a moment for large record sets).
    6. Click Save Data to store the Audit Trail records in the database.

    2. Audit Trail History

Go to History > Lock Audit History to view saved records.

    • Click Search to view all saved events, or
    • Narrow the search by Start/End Date, Lock Name, Lock Location, code creator, guest first/last name, or Code Type.
