    Installation instructions for the Linear UC330-VC CDMA Cellular Communicator — a cellular phone-line replacement for alarm panel Central Station reporting.

    Overview

    The UC330-VC replaces the traditional wired phone line servicing an alarm panel, communicating with the Central Station over cellular airwaves instead. It has an input to detect the alarm panel's arming status and an output to arm/disarm the panel via its key switch input. The unit is powered and battery-backed directly from the alarm panel. As a global CDMA communicator, it automatically locates and switches to the strongest available cellular carrier signal.

    Key Features

    • Seven status/setup indicators, including cellular signal strength.
    • Remote antenna with an 8 ft. lead, positioned for best signal strength.
    • Optional tamper switch that notifies the Central Station if the unit is tampered with or removed.
    • Must be activated online via LinearLinc before installation at the customer site.

    Installation Steps

    1. Activate online: log into linearlinc.com to set up a Dealer account and activate the device before installing at the customer location. Open the enclosure by loosening the screw and lifting the top off.
    2. Install tamper switch (if required): snap the tamper switch into the enclosure chassis bracket pins, switch arm facing down, then plug the tamper plug into the tamper header on the circuit board.
    3. Wiring termination (if not using tamper switch): plug the provided jumper onto the tamper header pins to prevent a false tamper alarm.
    4. Chassis terminal block wiring: insert the color-coded connector wires into the screw terminals and route them through the wiring guides at the bottom of the chassis, per National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70).
    5. Mount the enclosure chassis: install with the 4 provided mounting screws in the same room and within 3 feet of the alarm panel.
    6. Install the antenna: fasten the remote antenna to the top of the enclosure, positioned at the highest point for maximum signal strength, away from metal objects.
    7. Wire to the alarm panel: power down the panel and disconnect the battery first. Connect the 12VDC auxiliary output (red), telco ring/tip, key switch arm/disarm (yellow), and armed status (green) using the color-coded wires, then restore power.
    8. Close the unit: place the top over the base at the antenna end, lower until flush, then insert and tighten the locking screw.

    STATUS Off = unpowered; Flashing = booting; Solid = powered and ready
    CELL IP Off = no IP connectivity; Slow flashing = has IP but not connected to LinearLinc server; Solid = secure session established

    SS1 / SS2 / SS3 Wireless signal strength indicators (see chart below)

    <-89 dBm Unacceptable — all SS LEDs off
    -89 to -83 dBm Poor — SS1 on only
    -83 to -77 dBm Good — SS1 & SS2 on
    -77 to -70 dBm Very good — SS1 & SS2 on, SS3 flashing
    >-70 dBm Excellent — SS1, SS2, SS3 all on

    Startup Sequence

    1. Power indicator flashes for 10 seconds, then comes on solid.
    2. Within 30 seconds, CELL IP starts flashing slowly.
    3. Within 60 seconds (up to 15 minutes in poor reception areas), CELL IP goes solid.
    4. On first power-on or after a firmware upgrade, the unit may receive its configuration and reboot, repeating steps 1–3.

    Troubleshooting

    POWER LED off Inadequate power supply — check for 12VDC @ 230mA available.
    CELL IP LED off No network coverage, SIM not activated, or wireless authentication failed.
    CELL IP LED flashing Network connectivity good, but account not activated in LinearLinc server — call Technical Services.
    SS1 flashing SIM card has not been activated.
    SS2 off Signal too low — move antenna until SS2 flashes/solid; a higher-gain antenna may be needed.
    SS2/SS3 solid or flashing Acceptable to excellent wireless signal strength — no action needed.

    Pre-Departure System Checks

    • UC330-VC mounted in a tamper-proof enclosure.
    • Unit powered from battery-backed power system; power budget checked (average 50mA, peak 230mA draw).
    • Wireless signal strength is acceptable or better.
    • UC330-VC communicating with the Central Station (Cell IP solid).
    • Alarms generated from the panel and correctly received at the Central Station.

    Install in accordance with Chapter 2 of the National Fire Alarm Code, ANSI/NFPA 72.
