Linear/GoControl WO15EMZ5-1 Z-Wave Duplex Receptacle — Installation & Operation Manual

Installation and operation manual for the Linear/GoControl WO15EMZ5-1, a Z-Wave RF-controlled 120 VAC, 15 amp duplex receptacle (Z-Wave Plus, 500 Series module).

Safety Warning

DANGER! SHOCK HAZARD. Read and understand these instructions before installing. This device must be installed per the National Electric Code and local regulations (US) or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations (Canada). A qualified electrician is recommended for installation. For indoor use only. Total loads must not exceed 15 amps @ 120 VAC (1800 watts), including all loads plugged into the receptacle.

Overview

Part of the GoControl family of Z-Wave certified wireless lighting and security products. This receptacle has one always-powered outlet and one controlled outlet, and can be included in any Z-Wave network alongside certified devices from other manufacturers — all non-battery nodes act as repeaters to strengthen the mesh network.

Important: This unit must be added to the network only where it will be permanently installed. Its mesh network operation depends on knowing its location relative to other nodes — you cannot "test bench" configure it and then relocate/install it elsewhere.

Wiring

Wire this receptacle in place of an existing receptacle. Use copper wire only, or equivalent.

Adding to a Z-Wave Network

1. Put your Controller/Gateway into Discovery or Add Mode, then tap the button on the face of the outlet. The LED will blink slowly while in Add Mode.
2. Confirm the Controller shows "device was added" and the LED stops blinking.
3. The device will appear in the Controller's list of switches. If addition fails, repeat steps 1–3.

Note: if you have trouble adding it to a group, the Home ID/Node ID may not have been cleared after prior testing — perform a "Reset Unit" first (below) to fully remove it from any prior network. Removing a device from a group does not remove it from the network; it will then only function as a repeater.

Resetting the Unit

1. Tap the button on the face of the outlet 5 times.
2. Press and hold the button for 15 seconds — the LED will blink increasingly faster during reset.
3. The LED turns off when reset is complete.

Removing from a Network

1. Put the Controller into Removal Mode and follow its instructions to delete the WO15EMZ5-1.
2. Tap the button on the face of the outlet 2 times — the LED blinks slowly for 10 seconds to indicate removal.
3. Confirm the Controller shows "device was removed."

Basic Operation (Local Control)

Tapping the button on the face of the outlet turns the attached load ON or OFF.

LED Indication

By default, the LED acts as a night light and turns ON when the load is ON. It can be reconfigured (Parameter 3) to turn ON when the load is OFF instead.

Remote Control

Responds to BASIC and BINARY Z-Wave commands — refer to your Controller's instructions for command support.

Associations

Supports one Group with up to five Nodes for lifeline communication. Group 1 must be assigned the Node ID of the Controller that should receive unsolicited notifications; most Z-Wave Controllers set this automatically during inclusion. To remove associations, use the Hub's association-removal instructions, or simply remove the device from the network (which eliminates its associations if the Hub hasn't separately recognized them).

Advanced Operation — All On / All Off

Supports four configurable response modes to ALL ON / ALL OFF commands:

1. Responds to both ALL ON and ALL OFF.
2. Responds to ALL OFF only (ignores ALL ON).
3. Responds to ALL ON only (ignores ALL OFF).
4. Responds to both ALL ON and ALL OFF commands.

Configure via your Z-Wave Controller — some controllers may only support a subset of these settings.

Configuration Parameters

Parameter 3 — Night Light LED Behavior (1 byte)

Parameter 13 — Energy Monitoring Report Interval (1 byte)

Reports total accumulated kilowatt-hours (kWh, up to a max of 21,474 kWh) and instantaneous Watts consumed. Value 0 disables automatic reporting; values 1–255 set the interval in minutes between reports (default 6). The Watts reading takes a few seconds to settle after a switch state change. To reset the accumulated kWh counter, the Z-Wave controller must send a reset command, or exclude the device from the network.

Over-the-Air (OTA) Firmware Update

A quadruple tap of the switch enables firmware update mode (LED "winks" twice per second). The Controller must send the firmware update command within 60 seconds of entering this mode, or it exits back to normal operation.

Resetting to Defaults

Each configuration parameter can be reset individually via the default bit in a Configuration Set command (controller-dependent). All configuration is reset to defaults when the device is excluded from the Z-Wave network.
