    Installation instructions for the Linear DXS-91 ShatterPro — a wireless glass break detector with a built-in transmitter, designed for use with Linear's DXS and DX Format receivers.

    Overview

    The DXS-91 uses Pattern Recognition Technology to detect the sound of shattering glass and sends a digitally coded wireless signal to its companion receiver/control panel. The unit can send three different signals: alarm, low battery, and status. It's powered by two 3-volt lithium batteries with an expected life of about two and a half years under normal climatic conditions.

    Key Features

    • Pattern Recognition Technology ignores most false-alarm sounds while still detecting glass break patterns.
    • Digital DX code format with over one million possible codes — no field coding required.
    • Hand-clap test feature: clapping loudly under the sensor blinks the LED twice without tripping the alarm, verifying power and circuit function.
    • Low battery signal sent automatically with every alarm or test transmission.

    Testing the Sensor

    • Use the Sentrol 5709C hand-held tester, set to tempered or laminated glass (correct for both unless the installer confirms all glass is plate glass).
    • Hold the tester near the glass surface and activate it; the sensor alarms once, then enters test mode for one minute (LED blinks continuously). Firing the tester at least once a minute extends test mode.
    • When the LED goes solid momentarily during a test trigger, the glass is within detection range. If it just keeps blinking, move the sensor closer and retest — more sensors may be needed for full coverage.
    • The sensor automatically returns to normal mode about one minute after it last hears the tester.

    Mounting Steps

    1. Remove the insulator strip between the battery clip and battery.
    2. Program the transmitter into the control unit using learn mode by pressing the Test Button.
    3. Mount the ShatterPro to the wall or ceiling.
    4. Secure the transmitter to the ShatterPro using the supplied double-stick tape, oriented as shown in the manual.
    5. Snap the ShatterPro cover in place.
    6. Test with the Sentrol 5709C hand-held tester as directed above.

    Placement Guidance

    • Best location: mount on the wall opposite or adjoining the protected windows — never on the same wall as the window. Sound from breaking glass travels directionally outward, so opposite-wall placement gives the most reliable detection.
    • Ceiling mounting: place in direct line of sight of the windows, at least 1 ft (0.3 m) — preferably 3 ft (1 m) — back from the glass, and no higher than 15 ft (4.5 m).
    • For best false-alarm immunity, keep the sensor at least 4 ft (1.2 m) away from noise sources (TVs, speakers, sinks, doors).

    Coverage Range

    • 25 ft (7.6 m) radius for plate glass.
    • 20 ft (6 m) radius for tempered, wired, or laminated glass — use this figure if the glass type is unknown.
    • Reduce to 15 ft (4.5 m) for windows with blinds and unlined drapes if not verified with a hand-held tester.
    • Reduce coverage by 50% for armor-coated glass.
    • No sensitivity adjustment is available on this unit.

    Avoid Installing In

    • Rooms with lined, insulating, or sound-deadening drapes.
    • Rooms with closed wooden window shutters inside.
    • Ceilings higher than 15 ft (4.5 m) for ceiling mounts.
    • 24-hour loops (use perimeter loops instead — armed only when doors/windows are armed) to minimize false alarms.
    • Environments with white noise such as air compressor sound, which can saturate the glass-break frequency spectrum.
    • Rooms smaller than 10 ft x 10 ft (3 m x 3 m), small kitchens, glass booths, garages, and other acoustically live spaces.

    Glass Compatibility

    Recommended glass size: 1 ft x 2 ft (0.3 m x 0.6 m) or larger, minimum 1 ft x 1 ft (0.3 m x 0.3 m). Supported thicknesses:

    Plate Glass 3/32" to 1/4" (2.4 mm to 6.4 mm)
    Tempered Glass 1/8" to 1/4" (3.2 mm to 6.4 mm)
    Wired Glass 1/4" (6.4 mm)

    Wiring (6-Volt Model 584506-W)

    Shares transmitter battery. Red = POSITIVE to battery +. Black = NEGATIVE (COM). White = TRIGGER (EXT. CONT.), closes to battery (-) on alarm.

    Battery Replacement

    Depress the latch and rock the sensor module up off the mounting posts to access the battery compartment. Move the clip aside to install two Type DL 2450 batteries, positive side up. When the console indicates a low battery on this sensor, open the sensor case and replace both batteries.

    Maintenance

    Regular maintenance and frequent user testing are vital for proper operation — Linear recommends testing the transmitter at least once a month. As with all glass break sensors, detection is reduced with same-wall mounting since it depends partly on sound reflecting off the opposite wall; back this sensor up with interior protection for full coverage.

    Warranty

    Linear warrants this product against defects in material and workmanship for twelve (12) months from the Warranty Expiration Date labeled on the product. Warranty extends only to wholesale customers who buy direct from Linear or through Linear's normal distribution channels — consumers should check with their selling dealer.
