    Warnings and Cautions

    • Read and follow all safety instructions.

    Description

    These next-generation line voltage occupancy sensors add Bluetooth Technology and require the Smart Sensor app to configure sensor settings per installation and energy code requirements. Multiple Smart Sensors can be joined wirelessly as a group to share behaviors and field-of-view (FOV). Local control per sensor or zone can be added when wired to PLVSW low-voltage keypads (avoid mixing switching and dimming sensors in the same group).

    The Smart Sensor app is compatible with Android and iOS. The ACS05-DMW, ACS10-DMW, ACS20-DMW, AC205-DMW, and AC220-DMW models are multi-tech (PIR + Ultrasonic); the ACS15-DIW is single-tech (PIR only). All models include a photocell for natural ambient light detection.

    Occupancy sensors turn lights ON and keep them ON, then turn them OFF when the room is vacant and the delayed-off timer expires. The photocell holds lights off regardless of occupancy detection if sufficient ambient light is present, for additional energy savings. Sensors can also be used in Vacancy (Manual-ON) applications with PLVSW low-voltage keypads.

    Tools needed: Slotted/Phillips screwdriver, small slotted screwdriver, wire stripper, cutters.

    Installing Your Sensor

    1. Warning: Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse and test that power is OFF before wiring.
    2. Preparing and connecting wires: make sure wire ends from the electrical box are straight; remove insulation from each wire as shown; wire per specifications below.

    Note: Maximum system low-voltage wire length is limited to 800 ft.

    1. Installing your Smart Sensor: insert wires into the proper terminals and turn terminal screws clockwise to secure. Wires must be inserted from the top through the wire holes and clamped down using the washer to the terminals. Cover terminals with the provided high-voltage terminal covers.

    Notes: Both loads of 2-zone units MUST be fed from the same phase. When installing Class 2 wiring, use the provided tubing for insulation inside the junction box.

    Mounting in a 4 in. octagon ceiling box (1-zone): dress line voltage wires for clearance; partially thread two #8-32 screws (not included) into the mounting holes; pull out and align two coasters with the screws; align sensor between mounting holes and insert over screws; push in coasters; tighten screws firmly.

    Mounting in a 4 in. square ceiling box with mud ring (2-zone): ensure conduit/cable entry clamp is in the corner of the box; dress wires for clearance; install a two-gang mud ring (not included); partially thread two #6-32 screws; align, insert, push in coasters, and tighten firmly.

    External Inputs / Configurable Functions

    External inputs are configurable via the Smart Sensor App as Manual Switch, Demand Response, and/or Emergency. If in a system with 0-10V Smart Sensor devices, Demand Response is relayed to other dimming-capable devices in the wireless group.

    Sensor Operation

    • Delayed-Off time: Lights turn OFF after no motion is detected for the configured Timeout, set via the Smart Sensor app.
    • Walk-Through mode: If a person leaves before the default 2.5-minute walk-through timeout, lights turn off 2.5 minutes after entry; longer stays trigger standard operation.
    • Sensitivity: PIR and Ultrasonic sensitivities are adjustable in the app to help avoid false-ONs and false-OFFs.
    • Reset Device State: Via the app; by pressing ON/OFF on a connected PLVSW keypad for 20-25 seconds until the LED flashes RED, then releasing within five seconds; or by removing the cover and pressing the PCB switch for five seconds.
    • Walk Test: Field-of-view test mode; sets sensor timeout to 4 seconds.
    • Manual ON/OFF Switch: Overrides occupancy detection via the low-voltage momentary/toggle switch or PLVSW 1, 2, or 4 button switch.
    • Demand Response Interface: For dimming units — non-dimming models won't change light status themselves but will relay the signal to other grouped dimming devices.
    • Emergency Interface: For use with a Building Management System or contact closure to force lights full ON in an emergency; manual/app commands are ignored while active.
    • Plug Load: Inputs identified as plug load turn ON upon occupancy, OFF when vacant + timeout expires, but plug load remains ON as long as occupied even if lighting is manually turned OFF. Caution: if plug load is powered from Load 1/2 outputs, max rating is 8A (vs. typical 15/20A breaker); for full 20A output use a Leviton 20A power pack (OPP20/OSP20).

    Emergency Self-Test: NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and NEC Article 700.3(B) require regular emergency equipment testing. A single-pole momentary push-button Test Switch can be installed locally to interrupt normal power and perform the test — clarify requirements with local authorities.

    Mid-range lens (red frame): mounting height 13-20 ft. Extended range lens (black frame): mounting height 8-12 ft. To change lens, turn and line up arrows, then pull the lens from the sensor. Masking two sections of the lens can block hallway traffic from view. Up to 5 devices can be grouped together via the Smart Sensor App to expand field-of-view coverage.

    Bluetooth Setup

    Download the Leviton Smart Sensor app (Android: Google Play; iOS: App Store), then follow the on-screen instructions to connect to the device(s). For best communication, make programming adjustments while standing under the device. Maximum recommended Bluetooth range is 50 feet.

    Troubleshooting

    • Lights do not turn ON: Check for a tripped circuit breaker/fuse, or check if daylight harvesting is active and forcing lights OFF.
    • Lights stay ON: Likely constant motion. Test by reducing PIR/US sensitivity by 25% in the app and removing the motion source; if unsatisfactory, relocate the sensor.
    • Light stays ON too long: Primary/secondary timeout may be set too long. Check configuration settings in the app — typical setting is 10 minutes.

    Class 2 Installation Note

    EXT1 and EXT2 wires for manual control, emergency control, or demand response can be installed as Class 1 or Class 2 per NEC NFPA 70 §725.136(d). For Class 2, low-voltage control wires must be mechanically separated from Class 1 line/neutral/ground power lines — via silicone tubing/non-conducting sleeve, approved LISTED wire connectors, or per rated cable installation guidance.
